I have this 91mm Picnicker incoming.  Not sure what Reimer Luzern on the blade means.  :dunno:

Nice find, FoBe! :like: :2tu:

Victorinox wouldn't make the Rambler in Alox. So I got one in copper. The scales are from Daily Custom, Germany. It is heavier and ever so slightly thinner than Cellidor Rambler, and no scale tools. They were optional and I literally never use them.

:like: And I'm at the point that I can take scale tools or leave them. If I feel they'd be beneficial, I won't have much difficulty coming up with an SAK combo that has little to no overlap.

Found a Pocket Pal. Not as pristine as I hoped but not bad either.

You have no idea how proud I am of this little chap.  Lord knows why I did not get one when they were freely available, but found this NOS at a dealer in Italy. It's a rockin' SAK.

Oh, I do like it.

There’s nothing not to like about red alox.

I strongly prefer no key ring attachment on 93mm, so it gets a  :tu: from me there also.

Vic scissors are the best in the business, and while I can get by with 58mm I prefer the 91mm/93mm size.

There is something slightly off putting about the single layer/single function.  Just one more layer (maybe large blade & awl or pruning blade & cap lifter) would give an alox Compact of sorts, and be a viable (if minimalist) carry all by itself.  But of course, it  wouldn’t qualify for the challenge then…

But on the flip side, there was never a full size pair of Vic scissors in such a slim handle. I like using it, just feels good in the hand.

Plus, it makes a good complement for a scissorless SAK, if you carry such as a Cadet, Spartan, Sportsman, Pioneer etc.  If you are somewhere where pulling out a bladed knife would be frowned upon, you can whip out your scissors whilst keeping the other half of the equation in your pocket.

I got a great deal at Kmart on a Wenger Evo S10.  :D :D It has tweezers and toothpick and locking blade. :D

Ain't it a S101 because of having the clip point blade instead of the file...?  Not that I am any expert on this stuff.

Either way, great score!

Outside of challenges, I always have a Rambler on my key chain, so I’m always covered for scissors (albeit the small ones) regardless of what else I’m carrying.

YMMV, but in my area, I’m having trouble thinking of a situation/location where appropriate use of a small to medium folding knife would be “frowned upon”.  That is, unless we jump to places where there are outright bans enforced by security checkpoints with metal detectors, such as airports and courthouses.

Here in the UK, people - especially younger people - seem to be increasingly paranoid about knives of any kind. Ten years ago I would often take out my SAK in the office when the need arose, and nobody would bat an eyelid - some would admire it. But recently I have had a few interactions which give me pause in producing a bladed SAK at work or in some public places.

Most recently, I was at a work-related social event in London and got out my Alox Cadet to take the top off a beer, as I did not know where the bottle opener was. A younger colleague I was talking to asked me if it was legal to be carrying it, and when I opened the blade to show him how harmless a small folding knife is, he kind of jokingly flinched away and said "Please don't kill me!". This is a professional man, over 6', and in his mid thirties. Honestly, I was quite embarrassed for him.

To be fair to the younger generation, there was another younger guy standing next to him who said of course it is legal, and clearly thought he was being a huge dork about it. But it isn't an isolated example.

I know  :dunno:

It feels like a made up story, but it actually happened. Good job I was not carrying a 93mm knife, or he probably would have fainted.

@Nate and Full Breakfast

Sadly and staggeringly this is true

I was in a department store in Japan with some colleagues from Singapore. I bought a small local speciality cake and whipped out my Climber to cut it up so we could all have a piece.
One of my colleagues yelled out in a scared tone…
“Arrrgh - He’s got a knife”
I was pretty non plussed
I mean ….How do you expect me to cut up a cake
It certainly was not tearable,

All four are the Nespresso limited edition Pioneers from 2016,17,18, & 19. All but the orange one are getting pretty hard to find. For some reason there are always a few of the orange on the big auction site. I'm actually carrying the sage green one today.

That's right up there with taped boxes that bear a "don't open with a knife" graphic. What am I supposed to use, then? My teeth? :twak:

I have been away for a while... This retirement thing seems to take up much of my time. Enjoying it immensely!

But today I got a SAK home that made me really happy. Bought locally. A Wenger Soldat 51 from the first year they were made - in 1951.

Sorry for the bad pictures. Will get better ones when daylight returns to Sweden. Do not hold breath...

It is in eye-watering nice condition. The scales are tight and the tools are sharp.
