Victorinox Trailmaster Militaire Noir.

+1

Great minds think alike. :salute:
 I'll buy that!

Now if I could find a blacked out Pioneer to go with it...

Actually the Compact has a perfect set of complimentary tools, or a Yeoman Mechanic...

(other examples of my thought processes)

I think this would be an appropriate thread for this.  When I was 16, my father let me choose a rifle from his collection for my own.  I chose his 1911 Schmidt-Rubin, the Swiss Army's issue rifle for many years.  Since that time, I've been looking for the correct bayonet for the rifle, either a Model 1889/11 or Model 1918.  The Swiss bayonets I've always seen were of the pioneer type, with the saw blade back to it.  This isn't the correct model for my rifle.  I thought I'd never find one, even though I'd looked all over the web, even posting on here with no luck.  :(  Today I was at a military vehicle show and swap meet.  Buried under a pile of horribly beaten up TL-29s and AK bayonets was...

A MODEL 1918!  :ahhh :woohoo:  :D  Wenger SI for scale.  MY grail knife/bayonet/whatever!  18 years of looking and I almost missed it!!!  That sure made my day/decade.  :tu:

Now all you need is a period correct soldier knife to go with it

So did you not end up finding a Pioneer?  I know the SI is the same thing though.  How do you like it, and the bail?

The SI actually has a thicker and slightly differently shaped blade.

Oh man, this is the %@$#. Correct me if i am wrong but i think Wenger stopped the si in o8 ? I picked up an 06 nib at an army surplus. I really like the bail it works perfect with a lanyard. The problem now is i am really liking the alox, this could be trouble and expensive.

I picked up a small Tinker and a Camper at a flea market today for $2 each. The camper was so full of gunk none of the blades would open. The small tinker's main blade tip was broken off, and the square can key philips had very little snap. After a little filling to reshape the blade, sharpening, and a lot of soaking and scrubbing with Dawn and CLP, they both function almost like new.

Not quite right.  Wenger stopped supplying the SI to the Army in 2008, but carried on making the SI for sale to the public.  However any SI made after 2008 didn't get a date stamp on the blade.

No problem. :)  I love my SI as well, though I have managed to mostly resist the lure of alox. ;)

Yeah, I like the looks of the bail, but I opted for the Pioneer because I could get it in black.  Yes it can/will be trouble and expensive as well ;)

Here you go.  :tu:  The Neuhausen factory was owned by SIG according to some quick research.  Victorinox also made this model, but not Wenger.  I do have a bayonet for an StG57 made by Wenger though....

Is Cellidor strong enough to support a bail? I too link bails over key chain rings.

At least the old, solid scales should have no problem - The Cellidor knives came with Bails for decades.
