I bought myself 2 new SAKs today.

The initial plan was to buy the Victorinox Explorer only, but yesterday I found out about the existence of the red nylon scaled 108 mm. Victorinox Solo, so I decided to take both of them.

How do you like it?  I was recently eyeing one of them as I'm curious about the little wrench and how the pliers compare to the Vic's.  It's probably not one I'd end up carrying though as I'm rather smitten with my Explorer and Yeochamp really.  I wouldn't have a need for it I guess, but I like how it's a sort of combo of urban EDC with some mechanic type EDC.  It certainly would be a good one to carry.  Who knows, someday I may pull the trigger if my curiosity gets the best of me >:D

I like it, quite a bit :) It's a lot more compact than I suspected, and I really like the fact that it has the inline Phillips. Seems like a pretty good urban SAK, indeed :)

Cool :tu:  I really wouldn't have much use for the wrench and pliers, but I think I just want to get one to have it and the fiddle factor I guess.  I may even end up carrying it more than I think I would if I really like it.

Some info on your VSSR tang stamp...   so, 2004-2005

(Image removed from quote.)
That's a nice format. You just need to extend it back to... say 1950 or so!

That's a pic from a thread by Jazzbass. http://forum.multitool.org/swiss-forum/modern-91mm-tang-stamps/

As he said, these are only the tang stamps for the new, thinner, 2.0mm blades. For the old blades you can take a look here: http://e-webtechnologies.com/sak/Victorinox_Stampings___Trademarks_-_Update_12FEB08.pdf

OMG!  Another beautiful knife, Robert. I need to get a couple more knives from you soon. I just can't make up my mind on what to do. Each time I think I have a plan I see another beauty like this one. Your work is unlike any other.

Was the no keyring just the special run for +B or were there others too?

I don't believe your question was ever answered...

There were others.  I have an original red Pioneer with no keyring and a '97 stamped Soldier blade.

Congrats on the XLT & XAVT...... and scoring the swissflame  they are becoming very hard to find these days. Do you intend to use it or is it for collection?

Will be for collection purposes.....as I suspect the lighter will not work. Just out of interest what is the going rate for a decent swiss flame these days?

As for XLT/XAVT defo collection - I just cannot resist the big SAKs. The XLT cost an arm and a leg BUT the XAVT I think I found for a very reasonable sum....on Amazon US.

It depends how badly someone wants it. The fact that there are only 3 models that incorporate the butane lighter will work in your favour. Those that don't own it will want it due to its rarerity, those that own either one of the other models or both of them will want it too.

If I didn't have mine, I would be prepared to pay a small fortune for one. The production run was very short. Those that do own them will probably keep hold of them, that will of course push demand sky high!!

Yeah, the XAVT is a hell of a beast...and then some!!
I got mine through sheer luck. The seller listed it as a XLT. I contacted him to say it was actually the XAVT and that its value was higher than the XLT and that I wanted to buy it. The seller, admired my honesty and sold it to me  for less than he had listed it in the first place!!

Just goes to prove - it pays to be honest!! :tu:

I was lucky when a member here found one new in box in a local store and I jumped on the chance to buy it.  It was a deal as far as im concerned.  The swiss flame and camp flame are so rare even searching ebay completed auctions to check for a price yields none.  Thats usually how I can get an idea of price.

The one I got worked out to just under 100 USD I think.

Will post pics once it lands.
