My take on it is that society is the same as it ever was.  Just that these days due to ubiquitous media we are made much more aware of the scum minority than at any other time in history.  The result is that we perceive a downward spiral that doesn't actually exist.

there's a lot to both videos that we don't know. don't believe eveything you see on the net.

there was a woman working for the FDA (i think) in the US who was fired recently b/c a video of her was taken out of context and posted on the web.

the cat in the can looked staged to me.
the handicap guy in the wheelchair makes me think that there was a lot that happened before the video was recorded. the guy does mention or allude in the video that he was responsible for someone getting fired. just b/c he's handicapped does not give him the right to be an Ahole. why else would the porter take pics of the guy? i get the feeling this has been a recuring abuse by the guy in the wheelchair.
lets face it. there are some people we, i know i would'nt, piss on if they were on fire.

Apparently it's not faked. The cat was stuck there for 15h before the owners found him. The woman has been found and under police protection.

Nope. The guy in the wheelchair asked for the guard to get a ramp so he could get on the train and the guard refused. The guy in the wheelchair then went to the station information point to ask for help, who sent him back to the guard, who refused and started to become abusive. That's when the guy started to film him.

It's totally indefensible.

The rail company have issued a full apology to the guy in the wheelchair and suspended the guard. Quite right too IMO.

As for the cat, I am happy they found him. She should be charged with animal cruelty. Why was there a video camera taking that footage though? That seems a bit odd, unless the owners kept finding their cat in the bin.

I have to say I find both these stories very depressing.  As Neil said earlier though I suspect it's not that society is getting worse, it's just that in this time of 24 hour news coverage we're more aware of it.

yet i agree with neil and gareth. people are the same as they have always been. now their condition/ situation might have changed but they are still the same people as always. they are just reacting to conditions.... and getting caught. does'nt make it right then or now.

what's wrong with people today?... i can't help but but suggest parents. my wife is a 4th grade school teacher and it's painfully obvious that this is where some of the problem begins.
