I'd say SOG is following in Gerber's footsteps whereas Buck seems to be heading back to its roots.
A quick look through Gerber's website, there's approximately ~170 knives listed. I found 7 that had decent steel in them, either 154CM or S30V, and the rest are either 440A, 420HC or unlisted (the glorious Gerber "mystery steel"). They have $100+ MSRP knives that use Gerber's garbage "high-carbon stainless", like the Hinderer rescue. I think it kind of sad that when you see Chinese copies with better materials. Same with a lot of CRKT knives.

I never would have guessed that that knife is 20 years old...
