Can posts be edited?
I have been looking for an option to edit my previous posts because of typos, broken links and similar things, and I just cant find how to do it!
Please, prove me wrong...

There is a Modify link in the upper right corner of your post. But that is only available for a short period. Don't know how long exactly :)
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

You could also contact a mod to do it for you, if it is that important. :tu:

There is a very limited time to modify your posts- I honestly can't remember off the top of my head how long it is set for, but I think it's an hour...?

We have had some instances in the past where members have posted information that was very valuable (ie no one else seemed to know anything about it) who then in a childish fit went and deleted it all, ruining things for a lot of people.  I take that kind of thing personally, as it was damaging to everyone who frequents this forum since the information is no longer available, and was the result of something that happened between him and another member off the forum.

Then, on another occasion, someone joined up for the express purpose of attacking another member, and before the mods could react, it got pretty nasty.  Then, the new member went back and edited all their posts so it seemed as if the member being attacked was the bad guy.

Needless to say, we have had some significant issues with people modifying their posts in the past, and as a result, we keep a pretty tight lid on editing things now.

It's an idiot filter :D

Of course, us slykdexics are discriminated against but if you've seen the mess it makes on other forums when people mess about, you would totally want it this way!

Well that sounds reasonable...
I guess I would prefer to be able to edit my posts, in order to avoid double posting when links go amiss...
But no biggie, It's all good  :tu:

I would prefer that too, but there are too many "take my ball and go home" crybabies on the 'net, and we have to protect the info shared here for the benefit of everyone.

Would it be a good idea to post a sticky addressing this on the Q&A board?

I know I asked the question when I joined as have many others. The logic behind it, when explained, is spot on but it did throw me at first when I couldn't edit my post; I was sure I was missing something  ::)

As Nikos has said you can ask your friendly local neighbourhood mod to edit on your behalf if needs be  :tu: There is always someone about  :salute:

Particularly handy when post something stupid and don't realise until later  :ahhh Not that I've ever done that  :-[
