My modem burner edc thread
on: November 26, 2010, 09:45:57 PM
Sneaky me was considering planting a modem burner bomb inside the "Show us your EDC" thread and let you all into what I've EDCed for the last year or so with lots of pics etc., especially as the OCD in me didn't want to spoil my perfectly round "100 threads started"... ::) Anyway, 101 isn't bad either as it can be read both ways, so here we go... :D

Hands:
* Casio ProTrek PRG-110Y
* Paracord bracelet
* Fancy gothic ring :P

Back left pocket:
* Coin purse

Back right pocket:
* Nylon bag and
* Handkerchief, wrapped inside a
* Buff

Front left pocket:
* Car keyring (MT.o damascus RRT, fauxton, car key ::))
* Home/office keyring (not pictured -- just keys)
* Leatherman PS4 red, all hanging from a
* Victorinox belt hanger, with some paracord wrapped around the split ring to muffle metal noises while walking... :)
* Old-ish cell phone, inside an iPod sock to save it from scratches.

Front right pocket:
* Home-made urban wallet (ripstop camo fabric off of old si pants of mine, ykk zipper), attached to
* Home-made braided lanyard with a small clip and s-biner, threaded through my belt with a prussic knot.

Inside the wallet there is a slew of stuff.

The front pockets hold:
* BO CC Spirit X
* Maratac AAA
* Bullet pen with a Zebra F301-compact refill
* Fox-40 whistle
* PocketWrench II
* Maglite Solitaire (recommissioned as a bill/pill fob)
* 4GB USB thumb drive
* Small butane lighter

The middle zipped pocket holds:
* Plastic sleeve with driving license, ID, library card, etc.
* Corkscrew add-on and mini screwdriver for the Spirit
* CC tweezers

The back pocket holds a plastic card holder with:
* Cards (duh! ::))
* Bills, attached to the holder via a paper clip
* A bit of paper
* An ultra-compact calendar
* A fresnel lens
* A few feet of duct tape
* An Ikea paper ruler

Here's a group shot:

They all fit inside the wallet snugly and the whole hog is quite slim and rides easily in even the tighter of my jeans.

This stuff is always on me (aka level-1 EDC).

Other than the above, I also tote around a MaxP Lunada when I have my netbook (Asus EeePC 1005HA) with me (which is almost always).

There are several Grimlocs around the bag (they often come in handy when you least expect it), plus a home-made paracord pouch to hold a Contigo mug with some coffee.

The strap also holds the nylon molle Spirit sheath, another Grimloc, a CC keychain light, and one of Neil's whistles.

The main compartment holds the netbook, accompanying power cords, cell phone charger, and a CC organizer, in the side pouches. That way the main area remains empty for notepads, books, envelopes, etc. (more on the organizer shortly)

The front top pouch has various bits and bobs, including sunglasses, earphones, spare batteries, pencil tips, eraser etc.

The internal bottom pouch holds some more bits and bobs, including cell phone hands-free and USB cords, pens/pencils/sharpie, small ruler, an S-biner, a Zebra H30, a lighter, some paracord, and a small monocular...

while the external one holds a Moleskine notebook and pen.

(to be continued...)

Last, the CC organizer load-out... I needed it to be as flat and slim as possible, so I didn't overfill it...

Nothing fancy on the outside but a bootable USB thumb drive with some PC recovery/forensics utilities.

The inside is home to:
* '78 Soldier
* LM Crunch
* 4'' adjustable wrench
* 1m tape
* Small notepad and pen
* Zip-ties
* Some duct tape
* Bits+drivers super ultra extra mega combo :D

The latter is comprised of:
* Vic ratchet
* LM bit extender (being used in conjunction with the ratchet)
* LM sharpener
* Spyderco file/screwdrivers
* PocketWrench II
* LM bit card (with hand-selected bits)

There! Hope all your modems are burnt and all your bases are belong to us. :D

Great setup Nikos. Good to see all your stuff and how you carry it. Deep pockets and skinny legs do help though.  :D

Great stuff, thanks for showing how you carry it!

I immediately copied the paracord cover for the Victorinox belt hanger. I have one too, love it and use it almost every day, but always found that it can make a lot of noise  ::) I hope this problem is now solved  :tu:

Thanks for the kind words guys. In other news, I've now left the wallet PocketWrench-II home in favor of my brand-new Piranha (sans the bit and bit holder rubber... the Spirit already provides those and the Piranha is like half a cm slimmer without it). First EDC change in a year or so... :D
