PST Blade into a PST II
on: November 27, 2010, 04:58:46 AM
Hi,

A while ago I asked the question whether a PST blade would fit into a PST II. The general consensus was that it would.

Original Thread: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,22614.0.html

I am a BIG fan of the PST II, but I never liked the combo blade. I recently got an old PST from a fellow member which would make a perfect doner tool. Not having the tools, I had very little options. Last week I contacted LEatherman in Sydney and asked them if the blades were interchangeable. "Yes" was there response, however they had no spares. I said that I have both tools, all I needed them was to swap them out. They were happy to do it, AND I would retain my warranty, provided they do the work and I keep both tools "together" if there were any future claims.

I took the tools in, as well as 2 others that required some TLC and while I was booking the 2 TLC tools in, the technician did the swap for me. I am VERY happy with the result. The PST will most likely stay in the drawer, but the PST II will be used daily, although it will have to contend with the Pulse for my EDC. I include some pictures of the modded tools.

Thumbs up for Leatherman here, not only have they done an awesome (yet simple) mod, but ensured some older retired tools stay in service. 3 cheers for LM Sydney!!!

Enjoy the Pictures

Pieter

I think that is really great for Leatherman to do something like this!  :tu:

Glad they have made your tool more use-full/personal to you

Very Cool and truly a great story..  :tu:
But I am surprised Leatherman actually agreed to tamper with their "perfect un-customizable" tools..  ;)

I think Leatherman HQ may well be sending a WTF email Down Under too the Aussie Distributors  .

Brilliant stuff that the Oz distributor did this for you pietervn  8) 8) 8). Great to hear such a good storey from a non US Leatherman distributor & I hope LM HQ does not give them too much grief.

Hi,

Yep MultiMat, I hope they do not get into some sort of trouble, that would not be good, however they have a "customer" for life, or at least the 25+ years their tools are guaranteed for.  ;)

The tool is great, and yes, I now use a Retired tool as EDC. Sometimes the Sideclip will be taken out for service, but I suspect it would not be to often.

Thanks for all the other comments.

Cheers,

Pieter

I was surprised that LM would do this, just because of the way big companies often operate, so hats off to LM Aus for looking after their customers :tu:
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
