Oldies but Goodies
on: January 20, 2011, 12:08:34 AM

While working at my mate's Dads house I came across some knives in his larder, here's three that I thought you might like a closer look at  :salute:

One of his jobs was as a meat inspector he would visit slaughter houses around the county

The oldest he stopped using in 1969 (I think he said change of employer) so it was made sometime before that

The middle one he stopped using when they changed to plastic handles when health and safety regs stopped them from using wooden handled knives (not sure of the year)

All these knives still see occasional use  :)

I have been playing with making various handles for knives and things for a while but had not found the perfect fit for my hand until I picked up number three,
I will draw around it so I have a template for future projects  ;)

If its not clear the top two are Victorinox and the bottom one is Taylors eye witness (molybdenum stainless)

When I took the above knives back he showed me some more treasure  :o
He was a lad when he received this secondhand knife some 60 years ago,
It was in this condition (with a broken tip) when he got it and its been in his pocket every day since then
It says F MOSLE on the blade, which looking on the net I think was R F MOSLEY

And this knife belonged to his grandfather-in-law
I didn't like to play with it too much as it has seen a lot of use
The can opener has broken off

Knives with providence.  The best type :tu:  Thanks for sharing them with us Tony.  That second one must be ancient.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

What are the scales on the second one made of? :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I don't know, I couldn’t tell by feel, maybe an early plastic?
I will see it again tomorrow I want to compare it to my IAK
I couldn’t see anything stamped on the blades
Neil any idea?

I just love the first one, it was battered around when he got it and its been in his pocket every day since he was a kid  :)

I think April 17th is start up around here.  There's no hard standing ones around me so its very seasonal.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
