Who carries a manpurse?

I liked my old bag. It wasn't a manpurse, it was a WW2 gas mask bag (maybe Korean War, but same difference for that pattern). I wish it hadn't disintegrated, I still haven't found anything I like as much as that one. Cordura nylon is super tough and all, but I just plain doesn't have the feel of good old worn canvas duck.

I call it an EDC bag. I actually refuse to call it a manpurse, manbag, etc. EDC bag not only sounds better, but is actually more accurate. Granted I also don't actually carry it around with me either: it goes to the car, to work, maybe on a hike to be used as a camera/piknik bag. I'm not going to go into the store, or restaurant, or whatever with it. A purse goes everywhere on your shoulder, an EDC bag is kept relatively close at hand until needed.

It's former gas mask bag of Finnish army and those are practically free, with unused mask it's something like 5€. Only negative thing is that all sort of hippies have taken these bags as their own...

mtool - love that old gasmask bag. Mine was a similar style, just US markings with a slightly longer flap. I think my favorite thing was that it had the waist strap that let you tie it to your side if you were having to jog or ride a bike or climb over something...something that a lot of the tacticool bags still lack.

i wouldn't ever carry a purse, but it would make carrying heavy multi-tools A LOT easier on the pockets

My bag is a huge part of my EDC. I think that the benefits far outweigh the negatives. And it does make carrying my spares much easier.

The odd thing is that it's only been in the second half of the C20th that it has somehow become 'girly' to carry a bag. The Indiana Jones example isn't good because it was exceptional, but because it was entirely ordinary for a guy to have a bag.

Have a look at this image of train workers, two guys front and middle with, you guessed it, bags.

More to be seen in the crowd behind them as well, I don't suspect these guys stole them from their wives.

Awesome pic gareth! I don't even blink when taking my bag anywhere now, and I never get harassed by anyone but close friends. And even they started carrying backpacks soon after seeing my jumbo. I hadn't even thought of the notion of Manpurse until this thread popped back up when someone posted on it. I just got comfortable, and that's the answer. It's only girly to insecure men, and to those man enough to carry one, it's the most useful thing they will ever carry.
