Fonarik's website has Fenix's new high power thrower (TK35) doing it's tunnel
thing.  I was amazed at how much spill the Tk45 had until I looked at
how this thing appears to shoot.  Check it out, toggle back and
forth between the lights. :)

Thanks Sean. Looks nice.

Was the TK35 a light you were thinking of getting?

It seems to put my TK30 to shame.

Yeah I was thinking of picking one up.  The Dike I walk at night is dark, DARK, and
I feel like I could use a bit more Lumen especially than my Tk15 is putting out and
it's a pretty powerful unit. :)

That Tk50 looks to be a good thrower albeit alot less spill.  Biggest problem I have
with that light is the $200 layout when I factored in good rechargeable "d" cell
batteries + a charger that would charge them.  :-\

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the TK35 reduce in output after a few minutes for thermal protection?

Yes that is correct.  I'm just trying to figure out if I can work around that a bit
by cycling through the levels before it gets to that time point?  I'm wondering
what the "down" time from turbo would be after it cycled down to high?  Would
it go back up to turbo or would it have to cool down?  I might have to pose
this question to Fenix.

edit:
Fenix is pretty quick to reply back when you send them an email, at least their
Canadian division.  I did pose this question to them and this is what they said...

Hello Sean,
The light has a thermo lock which will prevent the light from destroying itself. If you try to cycle it when the temperature of the head will be close to maximum the light will not start in turbo.
You will need to use the light close to 30 minutes for the thermo block to start working and high mode is still very powerful one.
Besides on the market there is no other light in this power and the most important - price range...

Sincerely,
Fenix Tactical

Thanks for posting Fenix' comments Sean.

I'm going to stick with the TK30.  Max power of the TK30 is greater than the TK35 on high, it doesn't get hot, and I like the form factor of the narrow, round body better.  I can't use the TK35 with the Twofish handlebar mount on my bike.  The TK30 is more flexible, since it can be run with a shortened body powered by /2xCR123 or 1x18650, and the output with that setup is still higher than the TK35 on high.  The beam profile appears to be more floody on the TK35 though, which I like.  The TK35 is also more efficient, but I can live with that.

Good points there Nutsak.  :tu:

Yeah, but the TK35 is no doubt a great light for the price...  Enjoy yours!

I look forward to some feedback on your new purchase.
