Resizing pictures for EDCSource
on: February 13, 2011, 05:38:19 PM
Need some help.
So...Im finally going to try and post my first auction there and it keeps saying my pics are too big to load.  I've taken the same pictures 3 times now...once in standard mode, once in fine mode and once in super fine mode.

Don't know what else to do?

Photo shop, or plain MS Office picture editor, choose edit pictures, and you'll have a resize pic, or compress pic tools... Maybe there are other ways, but i use this one...

Well, I don't have photoshop so I'll try the other option.  That is a bummer....that means I'd have to add a whole other step to the process.

I'd have to:
- clean/ polish item
- take pics
- open new software and edit the size of each photo and save each one under a different file name

-upload to my auction.

Sigh...I'll give that a shot.   Thanks for the help.

Just realized.  I don't have MS office on my laptop, so I'd have to first email the pics to myself so I could open them on my desktop upstairs to edit.  Maybe I'll try play with paint..?

You could upload the images to imageshack or similar, and download the resized versions.

install picasa (picasa.google.com) and export them

get paint.net (www.getpaint.net)

http://www.picresize.com/

http://www.lunapic.com/editor/

...

The easier option might be to just take the pics in a lower resolution.  So change your camera to shot 4M instead of 12M, for example.

I thought I'd already tried that when I changed the settings from super fine to normal res?

So ...another question.

So far I've resized the pics and it seems like EDC took them (haven't previewed yet though)

now...for shipping...how do I set a $5.00 price nationwide and a $15.00 price international?  How much does insurance cost for say a...$100.00 multitool?

Sorry so many questions, but I've never tried this before.  Thanks all

keeping in mind I'm a long way from being a camera expert, my understanding is that the only reason to actually shot in higher mega-pixels (10M and up say) is if you're planning to blow it up, print it and hang it on your wall.  For auction pics then you really don't need that, so if you use a lower setting then you'll have a perfectly good pic but with a much smaller file size.

How I handle international postage and the way you do will probably be different due to a quirk in the way the site software handles currencies.

I just put a local (UK in my case obviously) postage price on the auction and request international buyers ask for a quote.

You are dealing purely in USD, so it should be easier for you to automate the system.  Def has written a how to guide.

As to how much insurance costs etc. you'll be best off hitting the USPS web site really :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Alright damnnit!  lol!  Just got home and finally finished the listing.

http://www.edcsource.com/Paladin-PowerPlay-PT540,name,106631,auction_id,auction_details

Does it look ok?  I worry that I messed up the postage, but it is $3.40 to insure up to $100.00 and $4.50 to $200.00.  Does it look too steep?

Thanks for the patience and all the advice everyone!

My point & shoot is 10M but when shooting for posting online I change to 1M :D

With some sites even that sticks the pic off the page  ::) Most uploading sites have facility to resize though  :tu:

You can resize photos in Microsoft paint that ships with every copy of windows.

I'd like to apologize to Grant if my thread offended.  I would never intentionally post anything that would upset anyone on this site, that has been so helpful, kind and generous to me.

I probably should have titled this thread, "how to resize a picture" or something like that and focus more on my own inability to properly use the site.   It was an unfortunate oversight on my part and I regret that I didn't exercise a little more consideration before posting.

Deepest apologies.
