just popped into my head
on: February 27, 2011, 08:28:33 PM
I've sold a couple of Multitools that I'm not going to use with the intention of buying something like a LM Juice to suit my lightweight EDC needs . If I buy the juice I'll have a little money left over and while I was surfing I found this https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=1217&mode=category&categoryId=1,2,3,7&categoryName=Military/Tactical

 ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Now I'm usually very sensible and I absolutely DON'T need this BUT I've always wanted one

If I get it I won't have enough for the LM Juice but I can easily trade etc. for one in the next couple of weeks .

Im not fussed about the money as its knife and tool money in my paypal and not earmarked for anything else .  Good Dunc is saying " What the smurf do you want that for your never going to use it " but bad Dunc is saying  " Get it , you know you want it  >:D  It will make you happy and you can sit in your favourite chair waving it about while watching war films  "

Are they worth it , is the quality good ( this will be a new production one ) , will it take a good edge and can I use a Sharpmaker ?

I must be smurfing mad but I feel a little reckless and fancy a change  >:D

You could try a John Nowill Israeli ... slightly cheaper .. might just leave enough beer vouchers for a Juice (?)

I've been tempted to get oe of their MOD Survival Knives for ages ... but never seem to get round to it

The Kabar is very nicely made, good display too if you are into that sort of thing. I eventually sold mine though, due to the combination of short handle and upper guard that made it even harder to grip.

That Ka Bar is a awesome knife, the leather stacked handle is oval not round so it affords a better grip.

The pommel is great for hammering, it is a well made and highly used knife.  Proven itself over several years of combat.

Nice but if I'm going to get one its going to have to be a Ka-Bar  :D
I'm going to do some research on them for the next hour or so and then sleep on it before I pull the trigger in the morning .

Hmmm

What about a telescope.  That could eat into your funds well.  Practical but not quite so likely to result in ear/eye/blood loss :D

Live dangerously Dunc - big knife beats telescope every time  :tu:
It's a pity you're insisting on the Kabar over the Newill ... I was looking forward to you reviewing that for me ... ermm... I mean us

( ... and I dread to think what films Neil watches whilst fiddling with his telescope ...)   >:D

Absolutely go for it.  The Kabar USMC is a classic knife pattern that's stood the test of time, and Kabar's 1095 steel is some of the best "beater" steel around.

+1 :tu:  I have two Kabar's. One was carried by my grandfather in the Pacific in WW2, and the other is a new production one with the traditional leather grip. They both hold a razor edge that you have to experience to believe. My newer one has gone into the woods with me many times, and i an absolutely beautiful knife.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

I used to have one and it was  a super knife.  I never carried it more than a couple of
times out in camp but never tired of smelling that leather sheath and handle. :)  It's
scary sharp I remember that.  I love 1095 steel, so easy to sharpen and hold a good
edge.  They even have the Ka-bar shorty now for easier carry.

You just got lucky that I saw this thread too late to steer you toward a Junglas. Thats something I would like to get soon.
