Possible PC virus advice please.
on: March 02, 2011, 08:08:44 PM
I bought a new laptop in the sales and have been very happy with it,however over the last couple of days it has been running slower and slower.I have Webroot installed (it came free)but is there a way I can check if I have a virus or anything?
Please make it simple.

I have been using an antivirus program called "Antivir" for several years.
It's free, has regular updates and I have never had any problems with it on several computers.
You should also check for spyware with a program like "spybot search & destroy" or "ad-aware".
Good luck :tu:

I use ESET Smart Security http://www.eset.com/us/ and yes I pay for it. I also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/ that is free and ThreatFire http://www.threatfire.com/ that is a real-time behavioral anti-virus software, this is also free. It’s also important to keep your programs updated so I use Secunia PSI http://secunia.com/ also a free program. I also use Ccleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner to clean up my mess once in a while.

When it comes to Ad-aware I have had some bad experience with it running on Windows 7, it hogged a bunch of resources and slowed my computer down so I couldn’t run a single program.

But for a free AV-program you can’t wrong with AVG, Antivir or McAfee.

Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials. It's easy on system resources and has worked great for me. Lots of positive reviews out there as well.
