Questions about Mora 2000 Orange Neverlost Edition
on: April 23, 2011, 04:49:31 AM
So I got a mora 2000 neverlost and was batoning with it and about an inch of it bent, so I straighten it and it happened again, I straighten it and now it finally broke off. I'm thinking probably a poor heat treat. Does that sound right?  ???

BTW this isn't a down on mora as I also own two clippers and they are dandy knives. I know mora did this as a contract for neverlost so it was probably done to the precision of what neverlost wanted.

Anyway I've tried emailing neverlost and all my messages are blocked. I did get ahold of Mora and whomever I emailed back with said they would send me a new one in the mail?  :tu:  Does that sound right?  :pok:

Thanks Ash

I`m not a fan on batoning with a knife. There are better ways of processing wood for building a fire. If Mora is sending you a new one sounds like all is well.   :)
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

I like to baton but I have never done so with a mora. Can't say I will either.  I am glad to hear they are sending you another.

I wouldn't expect to be able to bend a blade when batoning, break one perhaps, but not bend it.  Sounds like the blade might have been too soft to me.  That said I'm always very careful when batoning, nice straight bits of wood without any serious knots and not too thick.

I was told by a knifemaker that the heat treat was poor. I was batoning little twigs and such to start a camp fire. No logs more then maybe 2".   :o I was hitting the spine when all of a sudden it bent back. I'm not sure how it happened but it did. On the mora site it shows it as an outdoor, camping, and survival knife. The person at mora also said that should have never happened with just batoning.

I've never thought of my Mora's for batoning, though I have heard some do it.

I use a beefier blade for that (like a Busse/SwampRat/Scrapyard) and use my Mora for the finer stuff like shaving bark, cutting food, carving, small detailed tasks better suited for it  ;)
judge others by how they treat those they are allowed to mistreat

Ah, in that case I'd have been surprised as heck if that had happened, no way should a blade fail doing that.
