A walking stick
on: June 03, 2011, 05:18:43 PM
I just got around to sanding this old stick I've had seasoning in my house for the last
couple of years.  Thought I'd post a few pictures to show how it turned out.
It is Wild Lilac or as we sometimes call it around these parts Orange Eye Butterfly bush
as it grows wild, and crazy, near the river edges around these parts.

I walk with a cane so the subject of walking sticks is near and dear to my heart. I mostly use a lightweight adjustable one but I do have a few wood ones too.

Thanks.  It's fairly easy to sand the outer bark off which is quite flaky.  I hit it with some
boiled linseed oil and min spirits 50/50 then gave it a spar varnish coating.

Here are mine sitting ready for use next to my front door.

Thanks Chako.  :)
Very nice assortment of sticks and canes you have there as well.
It's nice to have variety in lengths, and style, etc and you look like you've got it
covered well. :tu:
