My new rifle.
on: November 27, 2007, 09:22:41 PM
I ended up going to buy a new toy today.  I bought a Henry .22 lever gun.  I have not taken it out to shoot yet but I'll post some more after my testing is complete.  It has a beautiful wood stock (pics are coming soon).  Does anyone else have one of these?  I am interested on how it shoots since most people that I know seem to think they are pretty accurate.  Deer season is going on here now so I dont want to go out this week but I might go to the smaller pistol range next to the clubhouse to test it out.  I dont think that will bother the hunters much since the hunting areas are pretty far out of the way.

I'll send updates as soon as I test it out.  Possibly tomorrow.

I don't have a Henry, but I think my dad does... I'll check the next time I'm over there.

What model did you get?

I forget the model number but it is the plain jane blued model .22lr. lever action.  It also has a round barrel.  I shot it earlier today and I will have to take it to the range to make final sight adjustments.  It hits very low at 50yds, I just shot 50 rds behind m mothers house.  I shot it a clumps of mud and smaller rocks, I hit almost everything that I shot at.  Like I said I still have to get some dedicated range time where I can really make the sights spot on.  Overall, I am very happy with my rifle.  It functioned flawlessly and I love the weight or lack thereof.  I may buy another one soon so that I can really dress it up with some custom work and keep my original well, original.  I may take it out next week to take out some squrriells.

How is it for ejecting spent brass? That's one of my big concerns..being left handed, and finding southpaw friendly arms can be a tad hard,I've become  picky about chosing and using longarms.

I didn't know you were a south paw, it must get on your nerves everything being slightly awkward for you, or are you slightly ambidexturous ???

As for ejection, it clears the spent brass well for a lever gun.  I estimate that they were going some 3 feet away just working the action normally from the shoulder.  I cranked it in slowmo to see how it worked and it still threw the case well clear of me.  If I remember correctly, my Winchester model 94 was sluggish while ejecting spent brass usually falling on my boot.  My 10/22 does not like to eject cases at all.  The first magazine I fed it resulted in a malfunction that casued a case to bite the stock tearing off a large chip of wood.  I am very impressed with the function of my rifle and its mechanical precision.  I have handled several lever action .22s in my time and this is the best of the lot mechanically.
