I have the same! It's an awesome and beautiful tool!
Did it come with this brown sheath? Because mine came with a black one.

Yes it came with the brown sheath. And with the wrench tool.  While I wanted a regular MUT when this MUT OED popped up at half price BNIB I couldn’t pass it up!  :woohoo:

Happy to see the thread pop up.  The MUT is a good tool that doesn't get a lot of converstion.  I like the Molle sheath a lot too.  I keep my Surge in one which works out pretty good.  Its a large sheath and even dwarfs the mighty Surge.  Have fun with your Ray.

Oh the sheath is the best! The two side holders are great  and I love that you can slip the strap and tighten it to your belt so there is a whole lot of less movement!  I will be getting another to keep the OHT in it! Plus it sits higher you don’t bottom out when sitting down.  :woohoo:

1)  Does anyone know the difference between the 1st gen and the current gen MUT (other than the clip)?
2)  Are the handles so loose that it really needs a metal catch to keep it closed?
3)  If you have a standard MUT and want to remove the AR disassembly punch and add a C4 punch, where do you get the brown plastic trim that goes with the C4 punch?
4)  Are the curved MUT handles more ergonomic than the straight Surge handles?

G'Day Carl,

1) AFAIK it is only the clip. I checked the two I have and they are identical except for the BO an SS finish. The Ti clip is way better, but much stiffer to use.
2) No loose handles. The metal catch is to stop it opening when you pocket carry it.
3) I think you are correct, inmate Loki_mobile might be able to help you on the plastic bits. I ordered some plastic parts from him in the parts and he was excellent to deal with.
4) It depends on your hands. I do not find either uncomfortable to use.

The MUT is a great tool, but heavy and limited in tools. I always use mine with a pouch, I find it to big and bulky for pocket carry. I have also removed my clip and using the pliers is more comfortable that way.

Cheers, Pete

Thank you for your answers.

Also, I notice the EOD version has nicer wire cutter pieces but with a more squared corner so it will not fit the regular mut plier.

I think that cut-out on the non-EOD version is for the hard-wire cutters bit. If you have a look at the plier-heads side-by-side other you will notice the difference. The EOD ones MAY fit the non-EOD version, I am not sure about that. I only have the non-EOD versions that I used for me previous comments.

There are quite a few differences between the non EOD and the EOD version, but I don't think that was the original question.

Cheers, Pete

Nice pictures too!  Thank you for going thru the trouble of posting them.  Much appreciated.
About the clip, does the newer clip have a flatter profile and sit flatter along the side of the tool?  The older clip looks like it sticks out a lot.

You are welcome.

The older clip is a single piece, hence the height. The new clip has a separate plastic piece (the brown one in the pic) that raises it to the same height. You will be able to sand some off the bottom of said bit and sit it closer to the tool - only about 1mm or so. I had a quick look now and that should be possible. The new clip really needs the plastic to give it a flat surface to screw on to. With just the clip it cannot be tightened enough to the tool for a stable fit.

If you need more pics I can take some tomorrow once the light is back.

Cheers, Pete

thank you - more pics not necessary but one more question:  do you notice any difference in the tightness of the handles between the new and old mut?

Not at all. The new one is slightly tighter because it has not been used. I did however notice a slight difference between the BO and SS versions for the plier-head, but that is usually with most of the Leatherman models. I use mineral oil and work that through the plier pivot until the oil comes out clear. It usually takes about half a small syringe and 30 minutes.

Cheers, Pete

ok, just wondering about the handles because I didn't want them to be so loose that I found myself having to use the latch often, so good to know they are tight enough.  Thank you again for all of your very helpful information and pictures!

You can always tighten them if they are to loose for your liking. When I refurbished a second-hand one I got, I took the whole tool apart to clean it and replace some bits that was worn. It was loose from the abuse of the previous owner. After I cleaned it, I tightened it to my liking with a small dab of medium locktite in the pivot. It has been a few years now and it has not changed at all.

I don't use the latch on mine very often. If I clip it onto my pants or pack I will latch them closed.

Cheers, Pete

G'Day,

Check the hammer side, mine is printed same place as a PST, but turned 90 degrees. I cannot see a date on the other handle.
