Handmade cleaver
on: July 16, 2011, 03:32:16 AM
I made this a few years back. Now since I have joined this forum I can share it without being persecuted. It's made of 01 tool steel and hardened to around 55 Rockwell. Until recently (this forum again) I didn't know how to peen the rivets. Now I get to finish this project. Pics soon.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

So When I get finished with this little project I will post some pics. How about some mahogany handles instead of walnut? I have a huge piece of Honduras Mahogany just calling my name to be used. It was pulled out of a 1700's home some 20+ years ago. Its about 6'x4'x5" thick.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

May I suggest that you epoxy the handle slabs to the steel? Both to hold them better and seal the steel under the wood from moisture and rust.

That's a good idea. I didn't think about that.
