Things you want to see in 2008
on: December 06, 2007, 02:47:47 PM
2007 is winding down, and time to look to 2008,and some things I'd like to see in 2008 are these:
Victorinox introduce a Spirit model with a drop point blade and scissors
Leatherman put the Juice KF4 back in their model line-up
SOG adding the gear shroud/covers to all their multi-tools
 Kershaw re-entering the multi-tool competition

What would everybody else like to see 2008 bring in?

My wish list?

All multi's with detachable pocket clip & one-handed blade
A smaller version of the wave or charge (besides the Skeletool)
A quality multi with a different plier or wrench head
A multi with a ratcheting bit driver (removable if possible)
A multi with a changeable utility blade

Cool question Bob.

hmmm it's a tricky one, but more maximum models would be , nice compact minimal tools have there place, but there just not for me :)

I think, the idea's put forward for a feminine multi, have a lot of merit and I'd like to see some of the manufactures having a good long look at the problem :)

Also I'd like the manufactures offer more sheeple friendly tools rather than tactical styling, I love rugged functionallity as the next man, but it doesn't have a place in an office or a retail enviroment ;)

I've been thinking about this for a while.

Again the gear covers on the SOG and the one handed swisstool.  Apart from that I'm still thinking.

Can you think a little quieter, I can hear you from here :P :D

I've got to say after my limited exposure to sogs, I'd say gear covers were well nigh essential :)

In 2008 I would like to see the following things.

OH swisstool spirit with a pocket clip.

OHT with a pocket clip.  (Perhaps I can make that happen with a little work or find someone that can do it for me.)

Leatherman Juice with OH blade and a pocket clip.

Perhaps someone other than SOG will make a tool that can be customized to a certain degree by the individual or the factory.  Buck knives allows one to buy the 110 model folder with a few custom features for a little bit of a price increase.  Why can't leatherman do the same.  Like offer 154cm blades in any their models for a fee.  Or offer the file/saw attachment like what is on the surge to be added to the charge.  Absence of scissors for an extra blade, you know things like that.

I totally agree with you there boss.  I know that this has probally came up on another thread but it would be cool if Multitool.org members got the chance to design our own tool for production by one of the major manufactuers.

Whether in 2008 or shortly thereafter, I'd like to see Wenger get back into the plier-multitool game.  :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

A multi with a changeable utility blade

Thats a good idea! There is a "Kobalt" tool at Lowe's (where else?) that has a changeable utility blade, a serrated sheepsfoot blade, and a straight-edge clip point blade. I almost got it but, of course, quality was minimal, so I got a Twitch instead!

You know, that could be a new weekend project. I bet I (or someone else) could get the holder off of one of those mini razor-blade folding knives, and convert it to fit on a tool (probably SOG).

+1!

I was most upset when I heard that the only tool I knew of that had this had been discontinued

I'd also like to see a Surge with wire-strippers (if I wish hard enough, it just might come true...)
I'd like to see the Skeletool released...
I'd like to see a huge increase in my bank account, which would be followed by about a hundred MTs in the mail. :D

One more thing I'd like to add;is that I'd like to see some manfacturers ease up on the bead blasting, and cut loose with tools with a higher degree of polish.

Two multi-tool related wishes for 2008:

(1) Victorinox adds a Spirit with drop-point blade AND scissors, and a better Phillips driver to the Spirit lineup.

(2) Leatherman comes out with an outside-opening version of the Core. I'd be hard-pressed to decide but that would pro'lly be my most fave multi.

+1  I'm asking for a Swisstool X for Christmas for this very reason.  I don't really need a tool bigger than the Spirit.
