Have LM resolved the file "rub" issue?
on: August 10, 2011, 08:56:31 PM
First off i dont have the means to post pics at the mo.sorry.
You all know the way the file rubs against the scale on the charge models,in particular, the TTI.
I just purchased a camo tti, dated 10/10.the file dosen't rub against the scale but rubs ever so slightly against the body of the tool as you open and close it.it dosent look bent atall but because its not rubbing the scale as they normally would i'm thinking "oh no,is it actually bent"

What i'm asking is,has anyone else here purchased a new charge and come across the same thing?

i'm hoping that its a factory mod to resolve the issue of files wearing down the scales of tools.

I have a charge AL with a very obvious "bent" file.it dosent bother me as i got it to use.im just curious because every tti i ever had rubbed the scale and this new one has space between scale and file but miniscule between file and body but it looks straight.

hope this makes sense without pics.help if you can.

                                           cheers all. :tu:

It's a well documented issue but it doesn't appear to be a major concern to the folks at Leatherman. As far as I know there is no resolution as Leatherman isn't putting any effort into it.

My observation is that the liner lock pushes the blade / file etc toward the scales as you bring them out.  A weaker liner lock with less spring to it could also stop the file from rubbing, I suppose?

Thanks guys for the input,on further inspection the file is actually bent allright.thats too strong a word, maybe curved inward shall we say.instead of the 'shhh'sound you get when it rubs the scale,i get a metal scraping metal noise, every time i open or close it.over time its going to leave a nice mark.

oh well, such is life.i wont be returning it,thats just silly.its just when theyre nice and new in the box you dont want any faults,no matter how slight.they cost enough.
