On Good Friday, SWMBO and I headed up to the Peak District to do a walk centred around Stanton Moor. It absolutely p1ssed it down with rain the entire time, and the total disintegration of some of the paths due to the rain, made it quite hard work at times. It was fun though, and I managed to get some half decent pics too. You really need to click the yellow bar to get the detail on some of these - 800 x 600 doesn't really give too much away!

Bronze Age Quarry
:

The Nine Ladies Stone Circle. Not exactly Stonehenge, but old. 4,000 years old in fact!

Earl Grey Tower There wasn't much info about for this medieval-looking tower. I have no idea whether it was anything to do with the tea bloke - maybe I'll Google it later!

I spent most of the rest of the three or so hours watching where I put my feet in the mud, so didn't get too many more pictures. I did on Monday though, so I'll post them shortly :)
I used to come here a lot.

I frequently refer to "The Peaks" or "The Peak District" on here. I am of course referring to the Peak District National Park, Britain's oldest National Park which is essentially a hilly area of Derbyshire that I have the good fortune to live very near!

I cottoned on to this a few years ago, and together with SWMBO, we seem to head out there on every free day now.

Last Monday, we decided to tackle Mam Tor, (famous for it's "Blue John" precious stone) and here are some pics which hopefully show why Fiona and I love this area so much.

In fact, here's a picture that encapsulates the Peaks for me:

If you were to draw a vertical line in the centre of this picture, from the village of Castleton, to the top of the ridge - that's pretty much the route we took to the summit. Hard work, but worth it when you get there, I assure you!

Here's me, atop Mam Tor. I'm not that fat really, it's the wind blowing my jacket up. Honest! The Dark peaty plateau in the background is Kinder Scout, pictures of which I've posted on this thread before!

... and a similarly wind inflated Fiona:

Another shot from the top (click the yellow bar for the full resolution - you won't be sorry):

Walking through Winnats pass on the way down:

And here's a couple more gratuitous scenery pics!

Going back there on Sunday with a bit of luck :)

I used to come here a lot.

It's a lovely looking bit of Britain Dave, I gotta admit I've done almost no walking south of the border but maybe some day I'll get down there. :tu:

The weather isn't generally too bad in the Peaks. It's not as high as the Lake District for example - the hills aren't really high enough to cause relief rainfall etc.
