The weather isn't generally too bad in the Peaks. It's not as high as the Lake District for example - the hills aren't really high enough to cause relief rainfall etc.

is the weather bad in the peaks then?

im going there for a week in june im expecting it to be cold and rainy...

No - that's my point really.

The Lakes have the highest rainfall in the UK apparently, but the Peaks are nowhere near as high, so the weather is pretty much the same as anywhere in the Midlands.

Whereabouts are you heading to in the Peaks? Maybe I can give you some tips :)
I used to come here a lot.

I just watched a climbing movie, and a section of it had some Americans climbing in the Peaks District, on the grit stone. I don't understand why it's the "Peaks" District though....

Aaaaah - I thought you said you were going to the Peaks - not the Lakes! ;) Windermere's nice though - biggest lake in England. I have sailed on it a long time ago :)

 :P

The lack of true peaks in the Peak District is a bit weird really   I'm not even sure that there's anything that can be classed as a mountain rather than a hill in fact.

There's plenty of climbing around though, in fact I may have snapped a couple of decent climbs earlier (haven't taken the camera out of the pack yet)!

I used to come here a lot.

It's not something I generally take too much notice of, but I'll look to take a few snaps of climbs next time we're out.

I haven't looked at what pics I got earlier, but we walked to the foot of some rocks known as "Black Rocks", where my dad used to take me when I was very young. He was (and still is although age has cramped his style a bit now) a very keen rock climber for about 50 years. He has climbed the Mattahorn and all sorts of "proper" mountains, but he used to take my brother and I here 30 years ago to try our hand, do a bit of abseiling etc. It was quite nostalgic going back there today with my daughter :)

I'll fetch the camera and see what I got today :)

I used to come here a lot.

Some random pics from yesterday. As my daughter was along, we went for a more serene walk on (mostly) better paths yesterday, and whilst not greatly challenging, we had good fun messing around in the Black Rocks near Cromford, which in turn is near Matlock in Derbyshire.

We started off at an old canal wharf, with ducks:

After that came a rather severe and rapid climb through the streets of Cromford, before we started to see some more pleasant countryside:

In the middle of this pic, on top of the hill, you can see a tower. That is the "Heights of Abraham" which I believe has been a cable-car accessed attraction since Victorian times. Worth a visit if you're ever in the area - we were there last year :)

Resting and rehydrating at the top of the steep ascent! Nearly bloody killed me! We were about half way through the ascent at this point

No pictures until we reached the foot of the Black Rocks - I was focussed on marching / thinking about straying from the ridiculously steep route most of the way up :D But eventually we got there and this is the only snap I got of Hannah with some guys who were abseiling in the background. I think those were the slabs that my dad used ot take me to 30 years ago - but I can't be totally sure :)

Hannah and I outflanking Fiona "head them off at the pass"!

Oops - how did this get in there?

Pictures of people are soooo much better when you surprise them - don't you think?

Just a nice pic of the ladies in my life :) :

Trying to find our car - it was down there somewhere!

That's the lot this time :)
I used to come here a lot.
