Thats awesome Gareth.  The foreground silhouettes give a good lead in to the rest of the picture.  Excellent shot :tu:

Cheers Rich, I wasn't convinced by the framing myself when I first looked at it, but I'm reasonably happy with it now.

Did I maybe post these before?  Frankly I can't be bothered to check back through 70 pages to find out. ;)  Taken a few years back on a hiking trip in the Scottish Highlands.

I can't take the credit though as I'm in a couple. :D

Completely OT, but that reminds me; the wife and I were browsing around a local antique store yesterday. I was surprised to notice a couple of old fencing masks in one booth. A bit further on, we found another pair! And as amazing as that was there were two more upstairs! It was completely baffling, as there are no proper fencing clubs or tournaments or competitions of any kind in this area. Odd that there were no swords (do they call them swords?) amongst the antiques, only masks.

Very odd.  In modern sport fencing (and as far back as the early C19th) the swords are split into three types: the Foil. The Epee and the Sabre.

In the later part of the C19th you got the first split into two different types of practice, the new sporting "game" and the older Martial traditions kept up by the Army and Navy (with Sabres and Cutlasses).  Before that all Fencing was practised with the thought that it was a skill that might keep you alive some day.  What my group does is study the old texts and treatises that were published about the older Martial applications.  The oldest one known of today was written around 1300AD.
