I think I am going to test this tool pretty hard, or at least as hard as I can.  I am carrying a backup along with it just in case because I intend to put it through it's paces.  Not negligence, but good solid use.  Be patient though because most of my jobs are light to medium duty; I'm not a tradesman or anything.  I have a few home repair jobs coming up because I am moving and have to prepare my house for my renter.  Maybe that'll do it!

Hurrah!

I'm pretty much planning on whipping the blades out and getting some scissors in there, so I can't wait to get my hands on the poor thing >:D

Ok,

This is my only question about the Rebar. Anyone sized it up with the Wave/Charge to see if the pivots line up? I want to swap out the awesome plier head to the Wave/Charge and be the ultimate MT nerd.

Yup, waiting to see if the parts can be retrofitted to a more ultimate Charge TTi; pliers & awl.
Not sure I have the nerve to dismantle another tool just to get an awl. Done mangled one washer between the area where the flathead was and the small bit driver. I so need a jig for this.

The bottom of the pliers on my charge have a raise portion of metal which is used for engaging the locking pins for the blades when the pliers are open.  If the rebar pliers "snap" into place, that means the outer section of the pivot point has a detent somewhere and not completely circular.  Also, the geometry of the plier head on the rebar must be smaller or exactly the same size or else the wave/charge won't close completely.  This is what you might deal with after you figure out how to take out those proprietary fasteners the rebar.

I want to have replaceable wire cutters on my Charge as well, but these are some of the design differences that I've thought about that will make it not an easy task.

Nice, that didn't take long at all. Are you going to put it back together or mod it?

Oh, do you have the LM tools to take it apart, or did you improvise?

Well to be perfectly honest, I took it apart almost immediately because the saw blade was "dragging" when I opened or closed it. :-\ Upon close inspection, the handle metal right near the pivot....where the edges of it fold over to make it more comfortable to squeeze...was "bumped up" a little bit, and the saw blade was rubbing against it. Not horrible, but annoying to someone who is anal about such things (like me) :D  It probably would have worked itself out with a little use, but I got impatient and just took it apart and filed the offending metal down a bit. Problem solved. :salute:

The spot I filed down is circled below. Homemade disassembly tools are in the background.

j-Sews, though it has no dates I would estimate, based on my extensive research, that your Rebar it was made in early 2012.  :D

i hope that helps you.  :salute:

..leaving date stamps off is a sad news - but I can see that it means one procedure less on production line (saves some $) and they will sell just as many tools as if there would be date stamps.

Aw, poor little thing didn't stand a chance in your hands Bob! >:D

So, just to pick your brains a touch here... if you were making a UK legal tool with no knives, what would make a good replacement for those tools?

I am assuming scissors as these are a must, but can something else useful fit and what would you choose?

I'm tempted to say replace knife and smaller flat driver with bit adapter, and serrated blade and can opener with scissors ... if that would work  Personally I'd keep the saw I think (though not convinced by it's size) - but possibly replace with eyeglasses bit adapter if there's concerns of "street carry" legality  That's taking it a long way away from it's original load out though. It would kind of take it to a glorified version of how I've got my Kick set up ... and with locking drivers ... but without a pocket clip  :-\

I was half tempted as a knifeless version despite the inboard tools, but I think I've just talked myself out of it again :-\

Are the tangs identical to current tools (Wave etc), meaning it's a simple Lego-esque operation?

Can anyone determine whether it'd be possible to get a Fuse, Blast, or Wave scissors in there if you took out the can opener and lanyard ring or something?
I'm really thinking the Rebar would be a perfect replacement for my Fuse if I can get scissors in it somehow.

Using a set of dial calipers to measure Al, it appears that the pivot diameters, the lock bar notches, and the centerlines are the same as on other full-size tools like Blast, Wave, etc. So I'm about 95% certain on the lego-esque-ness question. (didn't actually try a switcheroo though)

You would have to take some other tool out in order to fit scissors in MedOb.  A quick measurement on a set of Charge scissors shows them to be about 2.5mm thick, but the lanyard ring is only 1.5mm thick. :-\

Do you know if the Fuse/Blast scissors would fit the same as Charge scissors?

Nice one Bob!!

As for the scissors, even if you do remove a tool I'm not entirely certain the thumb tab would sit low enough in the handle to clear the plier head in the closed position.

I've been tossing this around myself.
