Charter must be doing some work on the network, well, either that or we're being screwed with what we're being charged.  We're supposed to be getting either 50mb/s or 100mb/s. -__-

Mine's less ::)  Which I could handle if 3G wasn't so bloody patchy everywhere I go.  I spend most of the time on Edge or GPRS speeds :(

I hear that.  I'm supposed to get 10MB on Virgin but I only get near that off peak.  They really need to sort their contention ratios out  >:(

Well, this thread goaded me in to action so I rang them up.

Downgraded the TV and upgraded the broadband, saving about £2/month and going up to 20MB (allegedly!). It's the same price as 30MB except they wanted to charge me £30 for a new "superhub" for that.... ridiculous!

Can't wait till we move and become new customers again - for Sky probably.

I don't like the crappy way Virgin treat existing customers.  Wish we had a BT landline so that I could at least pretend to change provider.  Probably wouldn't anyway as we are so far from the exchange that the bandwidth would be even worse.

Oh well hey, this is a definite First World Problem :D

They are all the same, they all treat existing long term /loyal customers like crap  :ahhh I was with Sky for over 10yrs, just changed to Virgin, suposedly 3x faster internet speed. Well it was fast(er) for the first week, then non existant for the last 2 weeks. Only got back on line friday. 3 weeks with Virgin = 2 weeks with no internet :twak:

we were with our previous ISP for about 7 years... every 18months or so they'd break our connection and we'd be a week or so without ADSL while they figured out what key they accidentally pressed at HQ. There was only one thing that made it worthwhile to stay, 1000 long distance minutes per month, including US/Canada (terrestrial lines only). However recently my mom went mobile only, and we figured stuff it, we'll pay for whatever we use when we use it rather than a monthly fee... we now pay less and have MUCH better service.

Speaking of phones, if you are looking for a very economical VOIP provider, Broadvoice rocks.

Not many people have heard of them but they have great service and if you absolutely need a landline you can't beat their pricing..

I am now totally mobile but used them for many years w/o an issue.

Going to switch to fiber in the next month or so, so I'm just posting this as a reference.  Bear in mind I'm doing this with several walls between me and the router.

wired will nearly always do better than wireless... my laptop did not get the same speed result using wifi vs wired.

I don't have anything wired directly into my router, but I feel certain that if I tried this in the living room rather than my "office" I'd probably get a better result.  I only have 4 out of 5 "bars" on my connection in here.

It's a bundled product.  So Internet, TV and telephone service (with unlimited international calling) is $153.  The internet component is around $35
