Torch for the kids
on: November 01, 2011, 11:21:42 PM
Need some help from the flashoholics here. I'm wanting to my kids a small flashlight for a key chain. I was thinking of a streamlight nano but I need one with a auto shutoff function. Any advise on what I should get? Oh btw they are 9 and 10 so it needs to be rugged.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

What about a Photon II?  It's a pressure-activated light; another option would be the Photon I.

Edit:  Or even a 47 cent Fauxton from DealExtreme?  If you want to go that route, I'll give you a couple spares I have.

If you want auto-off, that really limits your choices.  I'd say a Photon would be the best choice.  They last a long time on a 2032 or 2x2016's, have an infinite ramping feature which is nice, and if you want, you can program them so they're momentary activation only, so whenever your kids let go of the button, they'll turn off.  They're small, light, decently priced, and come with some nice little accessories too.  If you're interested in giving them a neck lanyard for them, don't bother with the cheesy ones included in the package.  Get a couple of better ones instead for a couple bucks each, and use those.  The included ones are basically just heavy thread really, and don't hold up at all.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I know it's not auto off, but my son and step sons get on well with Fenix E01 and have had no issues at all :)

There between 8 and 12 :)

With my limited flashlight knowledge, but personal experience I would have to say Fenix E01 is a great light.

The Inova mcrolight has an auto shut off if you activate the three setting s mode (high, low, strobe) . or you can keep it as a squeeze light.  the batteries (2016) last quite a while.  I have mine attached to my neck knife and its my most used light.
