The music industry is in a very big slump.   ::)  $$$ is the only thing that most artist care about anymore. If we keep buying crap music they'll keep selling it.   :D

Not one of these lists again...

Sorry, these sorts of comparisons are total, utter trash.  The comparison is being made between what's popular now, and what actually turned out to be good after 20-30+ years of hindsight.

Jimi Hendrix had one year as a top-selling artist in 1968.  He broke in 1967 (top selling album that year by the Monkees) and headlined Woodstock in 1969 (top selling album that year was Iron Butterfly).

i forgot all about front 242...ahh memories of working in a music store in the early ninties. Staying late after to work to crank up whatever the new music was while stocking books. Think we busted some speakers when Snoop Dogg doggystyle came out.

also shifting the cassette wall to make room in the middle for new releases sucked >:(

These lists are based on sales.  In the old days, you had to be in your teens (typically at least 13 or 14) before you had income and ability to go to a record store and buy an album.

Now, any 7-12 year old has itunes and can download whatever comes on internet radio that catches their fancy for 5 minutes, for 99 cents.  (Back in the 70's an album was in the $4-7 range, just for comparison).

Who gives a flippin' Fck what an 8 year old thinks is totally awesome?

And you actually had to go to the record store and decide if you wanted to drop $9-$13 (in the 80's) for that tape (in the 80s) with that one or two songs that you liked on it. Now you can just get it for a buck in iTunes. Also, there are a whole lot more people buying music now.

...and if there were only one or two songs you liked, you just taped it off a friend's album or tape.  (Or if you were organized, a group of you would buy the album together and make multiple copies, just to keep the cost down).  ;)

When did that get named "ripping"?
