Kind of a cheesey request
on: December 24, 2011, 04:53:52 AM
I see a knife I'm interested on ebay...

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/130619795151?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

so I contacted the seller just to make sure he was ok shipping to Canada?  He said sure $11
priority mail.  So after winning the auction I asked for a total which the winning bid of
$5.50 and the $11 shipping would come out to $16.50.

He replies to my "request total from seller" and says he was thinking more along the lines of
$26 total, $14 for the knife and 11.95 shipping?

I was kind of shocked that he would request more money for the knife, instead of the winning
bid of $5.50,  he would like to have $14!  Anyhow, I responded back to him saying I can pay the
$11.95 shipping but won't pay more than the winning bid.

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't pay extra and I would report him to eBay.

report him. I can understand the shipping cost estimate given by sellers being a bit over or under what it will cost in the end but the final auction winning bid can not change! I think he is taking the p*ss and will probably do it to others too.

Looks like a little negative may be in order.

thanks I'll follow up on this one.  :tu:

(update) he's been reported after he said "sorry for the mixup" and sent me a
request to cancel the transaction which I did not do. :-\

Well, at least he's being forthcoming in burying himself deeper.  He just wrote me an
email (inbox ebay) saying he doesn't wish to sell it for that price of the winning bid,
and for me to look elsewhere on the auction site for another.  Amazing, I guess he's
about to learn a little something when the claim gets read.

That's an odd situation, I looked his profile and that guy has an almost 12 year ebay membership and 100% feedback. We have a local saying that applies here: the best cloth gets the stain.  :D

loss for words. :D

Yes, but only 5 of it were sales, and one was neutral (should have been negative)

Sean hope it works out for you. I got home from work one night and found out I`d won a usually expensive tool dirt cheap. Then I noticed the tool had been relisted for auction again and then I got a request to cancel the transaction because it wasn't fair to him the seller because it didn't bring much. If he had not of relisted it before asking me to cancel the transaction I might of considered it. I didn't cancel the transaction. In the end he did do the right thing and sent it. It was not my fault it didn't bring much and if he had wanted more there were several things he could have done to insure his item brought the minimum amount he willing to accept for the item.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

About ten years ago when eBay was "new" this sort of thing happened a lot. Oftentimes newbie sellers naively listed expensive items with a low starting price and no reserve, and were (understandably) shocked when the auction ended and the price was much less than it should have been. :-\

But eBay has been around a long time now, and there's no excuse for these people trying to back out of a deal because they're not happy with the selling price. :twak:
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Yeah we'll see where and what transpires.  He really should have set a reserve on the
thing but didn't.  I mean really... it sells new down there for under $35 so... :-\ it's not
a sad miscalculation he made.  Anyhow all, thanks for your support. :)
