Wow, I know I am new to this site but Swiss tech in my opinion is absolute garbage! I got
A multipack of Swiss tech junk for Christmas last year from Costco and 4 of the 5
Tools failed within the first 2-3 months! I was lucky it was from costco cause I returned them for
A compete refund! Just cause it has the word "Swiss" in it doesent make it a quality tool!

The origins of Swiss Tech is that the guy who started the company is Swiss, hence the name.  In the early days all the tools were made in the US, were simple and rock solid like the Micro Tech:

http://www.multitool.org/Miscellaneous-Tools/Keyring-Tools/2008/01/11/swisstech-microtech.html

As with many products they became successful and started to go with more complex and flimsier designs, production was moved to cut rate manufacturers in the Orient and now we have crappy, overly complex tools that break almost immediately.  Sad but true.

Back on topic, we are down to the wire, and while it's been a close race, it looks safe to say we have a clear winner!  I won't say what it is until voting is finished later on today, but it's looking good for one particular tool!

I think a Worst Multitool 2011 might have been a more lively contest. How many for Cable Dawg??? Juuuust kidding:)... I'd buy one too if I found one second hand :)
didn't someone actually get one and post a negative review already?

There was this thread  http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,30755.0.html
That IS the thread I was thinking about thanks Mat! I hadn't realized they had resolved those issues for him. If the function of the cabledawg is sound as he reported in the end than I wish I hadve voted for it. Awesome design but a crimper that does not crimp isn't worth $3 nevermind $300. Someday I will learn how to use the "search" button. Thanks again Mat!

Stay multi my friends

I 'm a big Sog fun but my appreciation to practical and handy multitools is the reason that I like the LMs wingman and sidekick.
Finally I voted sidekick cause wingman's commercial campaign is too childish for me.

Thanks Grant for your knowledge on Swiss tech and
I'm sure almost every multi tool discussed here. I just
thought maybe you guys were joking around by including Swiss tech cause honesty the tools
I used by them were all absolute garbage compared to my leatherman save that served me for 8 solid years and I just recently replaced it with a new wave for free via leathermans warranty service! And to top it off it broke due to user error.. Love leatherman all the way!

Nope, we wouldn't kid about something as important as the Multitool Of The Year!  :D

Seriously, we include all full production tools from all manufacturers.  Sometimes our list isn't as complete as it could be, but we try.  It's not for us to dictate what tool is the best, and the only way we can do it fairly is to include them all.

It's been suggested that we do an "All Time Best" multitool, but with the number of models and variants there's no way even we could amass a proper list, and six new models would be released in the time it took folks to go down the list to find the tool they want!

Went with the Style PS, the Gerber Pocket Tool, and the Swiss Tech. Sadly, I only have the PS, but the others are intriguing. I like Gerber's take on the scout knife, despite the complete lack of can opener. That's okay, I have a Vic, Wenger, P-38, Leatherman, etc nearby, so I'm not terribly worried. It includes a phillips driver, so I may have to pick one up.

The Swiss Tech wrench really caught my eye. I don't care for (or about) the two lights, but a folding wrench? I might be game depending on the price.

This poll blows the sidekick concept: being a twin of the wingman, it took only half the votes.

I'm still wondering about LM's marketing that has the Sidekick only available with the carabinier and slip-pouch, and so more expensive.   Also all the "Bro" marketing has been pushing the Wingman with hardly a word about the sidekick. ???  Or did I miss something?

Hi Garth you did not miss anything your right about them pushing the Wingman instead of the Sidekick, which is a shame as there both extremely good lower priced LM MT, I reckon they should have sold both with the Carabiner and Pouch option personally.
Happy New Year to everyone and have a drink or 2 for me guys and gals. 8)

Actually, for much of the voting the Style PS and teh Wingman were fighting for the top spot- it could have gone either way, but in the end the Mustache Tool won!

Here's the official word:

The 2011 Multitool.org Multitool Of The Year is the Leatherman Wingman!

Congratulations again Leatherman, and way to go Bro!

Either way leatherman would have won but it would have helped the Gerber survival tool if it had been released sooner and found it's way into stores. I think this tool has a lot of potential

Possibly, but I think the massive amount of Christmas tool sales are more important to them than the Multitool.org Multitool Of The Year!

278 total votes cast I see. Thats a pretty good sampling, thanks everyone! :tu:

And congrats Leatherman :salute: The Wingman may not be the mightiest tool you ever came out with, but it fits its niche pretty well, and was good enough to take this year's honors by a fairly large margin. :multi:

I'm a little disappointed (but not surprised) the non-LM tools didn't fare a little better in the voting  :-\ ::) ::)
(I think the Fit is an excellent tool)

I'm quite surprised in the difference in votes between the Wingman and Sidekick  :o
(Especially considering the combo edged blade won)

I'm VERY surprised the Style PS wasn't a runaway winner  :o :o :o

Congrats LM, not just on the Wingman but on getting Gold, Silver and Bronze here

Someone still needs to do a review of that Gerber pocket tool though ...  :pok: :pok: :P
