2011 Multitool Of The Year
on: December 21, 2011, 12:16:02 AM
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time once again to choose the 2011 Multitool.org Multitool Of The Year!  We are doing it a bit different this year- in the past people have had problems choosing one model over another so we are allowing you to pick up to THREE options this time around!  Yes, that's right, you get to pick your top three and the tool with the most votes at the end of the week wins this coveted title!

For the newer folks, the previous winners were the Leatherman MUT in 2010 (by a landslide!) and the Victorinox Spirit X edged out the Leatherman SuperTool 300 in 2009.

I have my guesses on this year's winner, so it'll be interesting to see how my guesses work out.

Not to be a wise guy :), but I don't think that any of them deserve it this year.  I would, however, like to be the first to vote for the Leatherman Rebar in 2012.   :salute:

Crucial fast: mostly because how much improvement it is over the original, hate the carabiner that takes up an entire slot.

Wingman: Best quality/price on the market, also love the vic style plier head spring.

SOG blacktip: Humongous set of pliers, nuff said.

I voted for

Gerber Cable Dawg: for being completely ridiculous, too expensive, but holy moly I want one!

Leatherman Wingman: for bringing Leatherman to the unwashed masses.

Well my hot pick from this year's releases is Gerber's Fit (thanks again Bob  :salute: )

Possibly overlooked by many due to lack of pliers, I think it's an excellent little tool and a very good compliment to a pliers based MT, or even a standalone tool for urban use where pliers may not be needed often. The other two votes I cast were for tools I don't own, but which I think are nicely balanced tools and which would be the ones I would be most likely to carry and use if I had the full list at my disposal. Of course they all had fully outboard tools, like all good tools should  :pok: :pok: ;)

Although to be honest, I don't actually have any intention to buy the other two because I think I have better (for me) options already  :-\

1) Gerber Fit
2) Gerber Pocket Tool
3) Leatherman Style PS

I would love to but I haven't seen them all myself!

I did my duty. I will admit, not many standouts this year.

Then you can imagine how I felt last year after having paid a fair bit of money out of pocket to go to SHOT to see not much of interest, and I seriously debated whether or not it was worth going this year.  However, I have gotten some information from some sources that show that there could be some items of significant interest this year so I am going after all.  Perhaps the voting next year will be more exciting.

The only one I own on that list is the wingman... and it sure isn't winning an award.   Of the rest of them, the only one I'd want is the Leatherman Style PS, so I voted for that.

My bad I was using tapatalk :p I voted for the wingman for its crazy quality vs price (I gifted two), the BO crucial for its cool and improved factor and the SOG micro tool clip which is pretty awesome little tool IMHO.

Will we have news from the big guys (LM, Vic, SOG...)? C'mon... you should be able to tell us that at least  :pok:

Can't honestly vote on this: I only know/own the LM Style PS. But the most intriguing to me is the Gerber Cable Dawg.

Well, we know Leatherman has the Rebar, and hopefully Gerber will have some news on the Balance.  Neither of those is new.  I saw a prototype something from someone last year that I am not allowed to talk about, so I'm hoping for an update on that, and I got a email from a different someone somewhere else about something else that they described as "a winner."

That's really about all I can say at this point- I imagine Leatherman will have more than just the Rebar, and if not, well we need good pictures of it anyway, and I want another crack at the Balance because it's a really nice tool.

Since when did voting need to be honest?  :D
