Any Martial Artists?
on: January 14, 2008, 01:48:51 AM
I have blackbelts in Judo, Aikido, Combative Judo ( outlawed in U.S now), and lastly JuJitsu. I currently do Judo and I am a fourth degree blackbelt in it. Any other martial artists?

I've got a foul temper and sharp fingernails, if that's worth anything.

I retired from ninja-ing when my left foot was shattered.  In retrospect, I probably should have given it up when my right knee was shattered, but what fun would that have been?

I did a lot of Judo and Jujitsu, when I was a kid/teenager which was handy, as popular I was not :D

Once I left school I signed myself up for a couple of intensive ww2 combatative style courses, which I absolutly swear by as they got me out of a good few scrapes which could easily gone the other way ;)

Nowa day's I'd like to get back into it, plus I'd like to get my son involved too, (he nearly kicked one of my teeth out last weekend ::)) but most so called martial art's classes these days are all softly, softly no contact stuff >:(

So now I'm just internallising the stuff I've learned, getting more into the spiritual aspects of the art's (chi ect) and keep looking for an old school, training school :)

I used to do Wing chun a few years back.  But then I became a teenager and discovered girls and booze so I gave up.

I took Aikido for awhile when I was in the service, then for awhile in college right after I got out of the service. But nothing after that.So I dont think that I am a Martial Artist, just someone who was trying to pick up a few things and see where they fit in.

I personally didn't. It really is ment for older people because it is not about physical or muscular strength. But I did learn a lot of cool take downs!

Personally, that is what I liked about it.Sooner or later I figured we all run into someone bigger and stronger. It seemed to me that being able to toss someone is prety important. There is no better impact weapon out there than the ground or a wall.

For me... I've always been partial to Isshin-ryu karate.  I've also studied a bit of Bando Bull, and I tried to learn Monkey Kung Fu at one point :)

I did a bit of Shotokan at a p*ss-poor club as a kid 'cos I didn't know any better, but now I'm more interested in the internal Chinese styles - Feng Shou kung fu, Yang-style taiji and a bit of qigong. If you get the hang of it you can see & do some crazy stuff :o Before I moved back to Kent I joined a superb full-contact taiji club - it was the only time a taiji instructor asked me if I knew how to breakfall before they would let me play! :D If I can find a decent instructor I'd like to learn Bagua too.

Mike, mastery of the brick flail is a heady responsibility :D It must only be used for good - zombies only please! :D

What if I ''thought'' they were zombie's at the time :D

As for Qigong, if you master it, can I come round your house an hit you with stuff, or do I have to form an orderly que behind your missus :D

I've taken a little over the years. A variety of stuff never in a "formal" setting though. I am considering learning some cane self defense from Professor Wayne Carmen at a school down in Branson MO. From what I gather he's pretty good. I've talked to him on the phone a couple of times and he's very friendly. Finances are what is keeping from taking the class. Hopefully we can get that straightened out soon.

Actually not selling it short. The thig is a powerhouse. I just wish I bought a second.

However I will say I find it amazing that the country that makes it will not allow citizens to buy one.

I took no martial arts classes.  I was a wrestler though.  I can take someone down pretty quick if I need to.  All martial arts have their merits.

By the way Def, I seen a few of your countrymen in action last night.  I went to see the Pittsburgh Penguins game.  Crosby is from near where you live isn't he?

Sid the Kid's parents live right across the street from my in-laws, about five miles away from me.  It's funny- all the players on US teams are Canadian, while all the players on Canadian teams are Swedish or Russian!  :D
