MP600 vs. Diesel-opinions, anyone?
on: January 02, 2012, 02:26:17 AM
I was at a local store today, next to the BG tool display were a both an MP600 and a Diesel. They were both priced about the same. I have an MP600, but I'm a bit hesitant to use it, simply because it's a US Army issued one in beautiful shape. The MP series are great tools, but I haven't found much on the Diesel. Any opinions on which one people prefer? One of them is going to be coming home with me next time I head over there. Thanks!

General consensus is that the Diesel is the upgraded MP600; the one I handled was alright - somewhat nicer than the MP600s I've handled and (briefly) had - but it still rattled, which is something I thought the Diesel had fixed.

Personally, though, I'd rather have a Diesel than the FLiK I have, as my sole Gerber multitool example. :tu:

I like the plier sliders and the blade lock releases on the MP600 better. They just seem more rugged (and work better with cold hands) in my opinion. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I agree with Bob about the locks. For tool load I like the diesel more

Only thing that put me off the Diesel was the 2D Phillips driver. :-\  I'm not a huge fan of the blade shape either, but I know that's a personal choice.  The scissors look to be a better though.

I'm guessing you've looked at the main site review? http://www.multitool.org/Gerber/Medium-Tools/2007/01/21/diesel.html

Yes, I saw the review, but missed that about the 2D Phillips. I'm not the biggest fan of those. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm leaning towards the MP600 at the moment, but who am I kidding? I'll have both of them in the collection within a couple of months anyway  ::).
