Yes its Swedish and no it's not a Mora
on: January 07, 2012, 02:12:09 AM
Well, I tried posting this once before, but my MAC ate the post. >:(

I'll try to retell this:

Last May, I saw a small fixed blade on MT.O which one of our own made.  I had to have it.  So I contacted Seved and after PMing back and forth, Seved was making 2 knives, one for me and one for my wife.  I have spent a lot of time trying to find something authentically Swedish as a gift for her.  With Seved's help, I have finally found something both authentic and unique.

Without further adieu:

The package was sent 10 days before Christmas.  Today, it finally arrived :ahhh  Surprisingly, it is in great shape!  It must have travelled by cargo ship.

The contents are perfect :D

First is the small fixed blade I saw and wanted:

It feels great in hand and is very well balanced

The BossLady's knife is a work of art:

The reindeer handles have beautiful hand work to it:

Beautiful to look at and yet it has substance to it, feeling "right" in hand

The mark of excellence in knife making

And just in case you needed another hint:

Seved, thank you so much.  Janene loves it.  I had to negotiate with her just to get a few pictures of it.  ;).  Mine is headed to the barn this evening for a little work.

Hey Seved,

One question:

The edge is so sharp, with a mirrored finish, I'd like to maintain that edge.  How do I go about getting to a mirrored finish?  I have the standard Sharpmaker system (and a couple small sharpeners), but I've never gotten my edges to that level of finish

(If you prefer, you can PM me instead... ;))

We can take it here :)

Yes i use my beltgrinder and convexsharp on the belt and then polish on benchgrinder and weltwheel.
You could use sandingpapers and glue it on mousepads, the kind you have to the computer. Maybe 200,400,800 and 1200 grit. Maybe even finer grits. Polish it on a leatherstrap with some kind of compound on it. Or if you use a benchgrinder, but the benchgrinder method take som practise.
Test that and if you get problems, let me know, i help you if i can.

Update from today:

Just a few more chores on the farm.  First up, refilling the grain bins:

And then I needed to mark some split rails that needed a little shortening:

There's no secret to a mirror edge, you simply have to keep going to a higher grit (don't skip any) to 1500 or 2k, then use polishing compound on leather to strop it.

Those are the steps I'm missing.  I'm just using the standard ceramic sticks in the Sharpmaker.  BossLady has said I can have an old stirrup leather.  :)

 Very nice pics Mr Whippy, I see that you put it to good use, right away, awesome  :D . Nice with a lanyard  :D .

When i sharp i use 220,400,30 micron and 9 micron. Then i polish. You could build a little grinder its not so hard. An electric motor and two wheels. You can put a wheel on the motor and one just as far away as you need. You can buy wheels that you can adjust.
I thinking of build one my self, just for sharpening.
