Canadian Electrician!

Love the name, but its going to a customer in Indonesia. :D  My SAKs find there way to all parts of the world.

I did think it would be nice to use the other red scale with a white cerakote one for a red/white look.   :tu:  Country themed SAKs!  I do have blue liners for a red/white/blue mod too.

Mhm, somehow bi-colour scales on a SAK don't do it for me.

I've been in parts prep mode for 2 weeks now getting parts ready for a massive black oxide run this week.  Well massive for me anyhow as normally I'll do 8 sets of parts at a time.

It doesn't look like that many parts in this modest little bucket, but here is what lies below the surface...

58mm
2x classic
4x rambler

84mm
2x bantam
2x cadet
2x cadet II

91mm
2x spartan
2x tinker

93mm
7x pioneers + scissors
3x pioneers + scissors & phillips

:D :D :D :D :D

So I get to build a bunch of new models next week.  The 58mm BO parts are going to be built with polished brass liners and scales.  I remembered to include the split rings as well, so hopefully they turn out nice too.

2 of the BO/brass ramblers are spoken for, but the rest will be up for grabs.

Cheers

Im trying to make progress on all the projects I started but havent finished.  Right now Im working on

58 brass minichamp
58 Ti minichamp
58 with pliers

And also prepping more alox scales for black, and trying to tram in my mill and get some 91mm scales cut to join in with the black HA3 run.  So lots going on, but not much to show yet.... but soon.  Ive also got a wacky new concept pocket knife that Ive been working on a prototype for.

What about using Wenger "slip-joint" Pliers ?

They are a little smaller and the slip-joint will provide a lower profile when closed  :tu:

Well I finally got my mill trammed in today so I was fiddling around with different bits and I think I got a nice pattern for cutting my own alox scales.  This is 1/8" thick 6061, with a pattern cut using a 1/8 in ball nose bit.  All done manually, but I dont mind cranking out a few 91mm scales by hand so I can include them in the next black hard anodize run.

I've been waiting a very long time to do some protype 91mm alox scales.  :D

That pattern is bigger since I only had an 1/8 bit to work with.  I think it will work ok for big knives, but if I was to texture say some brass 58 scales I would want smaller.  The problem of course is that smaller bits have shorter cutting life.  I'm still playing around, but its fun coming up with ideas. :D

Yea, I realise now. :D I was too lazy to do the imperial -> metric math to figure out what size bit it was. Did it now, 3mm. ;) Looking forward to see this progress. :tu:

Yesterday I was browsing through my photobucket library and saw this sketch I made some time ago. ;)

Soon I think.

Ya about 3mm.  The channels are about 2mm apart though since only the tip of the bit is used.

I know that clip idea will happen eventually! There are just way too many things on my todo list to try.  I still need to fit a fero rod on a bushcrafter SAK too. :D  Lately Ive been getting more requests for a 58 with pliers, which is why I went back to figuring that mod out.  A rambler with a pair of pliers stuck in the middle of it, would be a popular mod it seems.  :tu:

Are the 1/8" scales thick enough to hold some T&T? I hope not because I wasn't a fan of Alox but then became one when I saw you mods. Now all I need is money for a 58mm with pliers, a regular 91mm with the factory scales and a 91mm with your home brew scales with T&T. Thank you a lot for making me poor'er  :salute:

Hope you're making good use of you mill!

Are you using coolant?  Makes for a nicer finish and longer tool life.
With small work like this, a trigger spray bottle would be sufficient, no need for a pump.

A round tip conical carbide bit might get you a narrower pattern than a ball end.

Oh no that was just cut dry.  I was only messing around to see what spacing would look right.  I first tried a 45 degree end mill, and that did not work well at all.  What I think I might try next is a staight end mill, but tilt the head 45 degrees.  That should cut nice V slots.

My latest is a farmer with scissors and a small serrated blade.  I can testify that the serrated blade shreds though flesh very well.   ;)

The serrations were cut by hand, and then I used a belt sanding sharpener belt to put an edge back on the non serrated side.  Worked out great.  :D
