What are the hardware needed to use the screws method? Can I use screws (or nuts & bolts) for cellidor mods? What are the sizes needed?

Thanks

I believe he uses screws that are slightly bigger than standard holes, so he drills out all the parts to the right size, using carbide drills, as the steel is very hard. IIRC, the screws can be bought from knifekits.com or something like that...

For cellidor mods, I assume you can, but pivot sizes are different, and I don't think you'd still be able to use the "click on" way of attaching scales, as those use the bushings around the brass pins.

You need pivot barrel. Yes, screws are fine but it won't give you flat surface. Have a look earlier post on this thread.
There is a link for it.

Just a couple of updates.  I dropped off the brass for waterjet last week, so it's due back next week.  Im keeping my fingers crossed for 100 perfectly cut brass liners.  :D  If those work out well I am going to run that file again get get 200 Al liners, and have those anodized so I'll be well stocked on all options for liner action.

And Im restocked on red hard anodized scales for those have have been waiting.   :tu:

The red turned out really nice.

Cheers, and I'll have some more exciting updates later this week.  Hint Ti, urban pioneer, and anodizing... x2.  :D

I was really trying to get a Ti urban pioneer (Ti-oneer ?) together today, but all I got done were scales and liners.

This is all grade 5 Ti-6-4.  The liners and keyring I hand finished but they were originally waterjet quite some time ago.  I anodized them blue.  The scales were taken to a 400 grit finish, then tumbled in ceramic pyramids for a matte gray look.

I'm not done experimenting with scale finishes yet. I got in some steel shot that I was going to try tumbling the scales in.  That in theory should work harden the surface.

I see why so many people like to play with Ti anodizing.  Pretty straight forward, not messy or dangerous, and you get some neat colors.

I thought I already posted all the final build pics here of the Ti build, but I must not have.

Even with the tumbled finish carbidizing the wear points is still necessary.

Mhmhm all those nice custom made scales. Ever thought about making thicker custom scales for 84mm so the 'pivot in scale' problem disappears? There, I'm on the 84-train again. :D

Lovely.  How does using Ti affect the weight of the knife?  I assume the scales are heavier but the liners are lighter?

It shouldn't add much at all really.  The density of Ti isnt that much more vs Al.  Now if you do brass or steel in this size, the weight is very noticeable.

Al (6061)                    - 2.7 g/cc
Ti-6-4                        - 4.4 g/cc
Stainless Steel (440)    - 7.6 g/cc
Brass (c260)               - 8.5 g/cc

Mhmhm all those nice custom made scales. Ever thought about making thicker custom scales for 84mm so the 'pivot in scale' problem disappears? There, I'm on the 84-train again. :D

Yep you are right it would work better if I used thicker scales, but the problem is I really dont care for the platform.  Aesthetically‎ I prefer the symmetrical look of the 93mm size as well as I can fit just about any tool on them.  Putting any of 91mm tools on 84s is possible, but such a pain compared to the 93mm size.

So I will just stick to 93 and 58 modding.  111mm is next though for sure.

Oh boy this worked out nice, check out anodized Ti screws! :D

The screws are shallow socket heads from knifekits.  2 bucks a piece isnt cheap though... $12 in screws per sak.   :o

http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/product_info.php?cPath=60_81_230&products_id=4723

I drilled and tapped a scrap piece of Ti for a holder.

Next Im going to make Ti backsprings and color those.  :D  I've been meaning to do that for a long time.

Ok so I'm continuing on with the Ti experimenting.  I set out to make a Ti backspring this morning.  Ti alloys are extremely hard to work with so all I've got so far is this.

Normally I cut 0.032" Ti to make liner parts and this hunk is 0.155" thick.

I'm really not too sure how well this will work, but Ive been wanting to try forever so I'm making a blade layer spring as the first test.  I figure I'll anodize it, then just build a 1 layer test SAK.  Open and close it a few thousand times and see how the spring holds up.

The worry I have is that Ti alloy does work harden, but I dont know if the small flex the spring will have will be enough to cause that.  If it work hardens that would mean the spring would get stiffer over time unlike steel that weakens over time.

So... It's got me curious enough to find out.  Ive heard of guys using 0.050" Ti for lock back backsprings, but never heard of anyone using it in a slipjoint.
