Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Knives
on: February 06, 2012, 06:57:47 PM
This knife set was a giveaway at Range Day before the show.  It's a chance for media reps (like me) to go to the range and shoot some of the new firearms and accessories advertised at the show.  It's a lot of fun and, like the rest of the show, full of little bonuses like this one.

These were made to advertise the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and I suppose I wouldn't be holding up my end of the bargain if I didn't post a link to them as a thank you.

The knives are Winchester branded, which used to be a very bad thing.  Now it seems as if Winchester has gotten somewhat better as these don't seem to be all that bad.

Traditional knife styles like this lockback (and the slippy that you'll see in a minute) aren't really my specialty so I really can't say a whole heck of a lot about them other than to say that they seem a lot better made than some China made knives.

The fit and finish on these seems to be pretty good, although I can't say for certain how well they would stand up to regular use.  Even so, for a pair of knives that were being given away, I am somewhat impressed.

Some time ago I wrote an article about advertising knives and I still hold true to the conclusions I came to then- advertising your business with a crappy knife says (to me at least) that your organization is either equally crappy or that you don't think much of your clientele.  This proves that the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is probably a good organization in my books- these knives couldn't have cost a lot, but are decent enough quality so you know they aren't wasting funds, but they aren't using crap to promote the organization either.

All in all, they seem like good knives, but they aren't likely to get much punishment from me.  :D
