Dangit!  I just bought a red one from Amazon for $15!

It arrived just today, as a matter of fact.  I've played with it a bit, and I think I'm gonna like it.

Do you mean the red LED? The Gerber Ultra Red LED is much cheaper than the white LED.

The red colored lights are to help not ruin your night vision.  Is this true?

Sounds like they may be on the right track with the flashlights but I hope they pull up out of the nosedive with their tools.  I mean one tool with a dozen different type handle doesn't seem to innovative.

Did they send you any order confirmation?  I never got any and you can't look up your order history on the website.

This is my first Infinity Ultra with the Silver finish.  There seem to be some pros and cons to it vs. the black finish.  The anodized silver finish looks good and has a much rougher texture than the black, so it offers much more grip.  It also appears that it may be a bit thicker and more durable.  The downside is that, since the threads are anodized also, the operation of the switch isn't as smooth on the silver models.

I wish my other white LED Infinity Ultra had a silver body.  It's black, so its impossible to tell it apart from the black body/red LED ones I have without turning it on or carefully looking at the LED.

I got mine a few days ago... The "white" LED Infinity was pretty disappointing.  The "red" LED Infinity though was pretty good :)

What were you disappointed with?  The tint on some of these isn't very good.  Some are bluish and some are greenish, but that's typical of a Nichia 5mm LED.  They're not the brightest thing in the world, but they're very durable, and the runtime is phenomenal.  I've tested one with an alkaline battery for 4 days, and it was still putting out usable light.  I don't really view these as an EDC light per se, but more of an emergency/survival light.

I agree, the red LED ones are pretty impressive.  They have a good beam, with some artifacts typical of red LEDs, and the brightness seems to be a good level for use in near total darkness where a red LED should be used.  I wouldn't want it to be brighter.

You definitely can't go wrong with either one for $5 apiece!

It's possible, but the results wouldn't be very good.  The Seoul Semiconductor and Cree "Brighter than the Sun" LEDs are designed more like a bulb, in that they are generally paired with a reflector to improve the beam.  The reflector is what forms the bright spot in the center of the beam.  This is what gives a flashlight "throw", and without it, the beam would be just a uniform "flood" of light, like a lantern or a Maglite in candle mode.

The 5mm LEDs in the Gerber have a small reflector built into the LED itself that forms the spot in the center of the beam.  This is why they don't require the flashlight itself to contain a reflector or a lens.  This design is generally more durable, as there are fewer parts to break and fewer routes for water to get in.  There are brighter versions of the 5mm LEDs available, but they're only marginally brighter.
