The main problem with the Dime I've got is that it's stiff enough to tear fingernails off! But other than the fact that I can't open the tools without mechanical assistance, I love it :)

That's a warranty issue if it doesn't let up.  Mine is nowhere near being a nail ripper, although the flathead is a little on the stiff side. Not significantly, but since you mentioned it... :D

If the scissors work well to cut fingernails then I'm in... Any way you might test that for us Boss?

Give me a few days on that- I just trimmed mine yesterday or the day before.  :tu:

Def

Of the three Dimes that I went through (the sales sample I sent to Grant, and 2 retails), the sales sample was by far the easiest to open up fold out the tools. The 1st retail I returned because the ends scratched while opening up the pliers, but the tools were only slightly more difficult to open up.

The 2nd retail one however was extremely tight and when I went to loosen the screws with a hex driver the head of the screw actually broke off.

Since returning all of my retail Dimes and sending the Sales Sample to Grant I purchased the Squirt PS4 and the build quality seems to exceed the Dime by leagues, which is really quite unfortunate. The toolset that Gerber equipped the Dime with is superior to the Squirt PS4, but their manufacturing process seems to not be up to par.

See my post with comparisons between Dimes here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,35514.msg573330.html#msg573330

The opening action on the Dime seems to vary with each example, some rub when opening so that paint gets scratched off and some have a stiffer "snap" with the pliers open.

I REALLY wanted to love the Dime, and I'm not biased towards any make, the Dime was my first multitool purchase (well first 3), and I finally gave up and went to try the Leatherman.

What you describe was my experience with the clutch, so this sounds similar.  I still keychain carry my old leatherman P4, I'll stick with it then.

So, we are getting some mixed experiences here: is the dime a good design badly built?
As I've ordered two from Travis, you guys are freaking me out. I think I'll skip this thread while I don't get them  :ahhh

That happened about a month after I saw his new band Damage Plan who opened for Slayer.

I expect more member information will start trickling along soon.  Twenty-three packages were shipped last Thursday.

In the course of preparing to ship the Dimes, I have opened and examined several pieces.  I did notice that all of the ones I tried were stiff to open.  For a little more thorough test, I took the green one that I purchased and put it to work a little.

The scissor blades are not very long.  I found they were fine for trimming threads and mustache hairs, cutting paper and opening single serve instant tea packages.

The clam pack opener is fantastic.  It ripped the cardboard and plastic packaging off a Leatherman Wave without any fuss.  I didn't dull the blade or cut myself.

I picked the piece I have at random.  When I opened the blade, I noted what I consider a modified spey blade.  It has a little point and plenty of belly.  Unfortunately it wasn't nearly sharp enough.  It took a couple of minutes with a pull through diamond sharpener and kitchen steel, but when I finished it would pop hair off my forearm.

I like the Dime.  I think the tool selection is very good.  Although, I am skeptical about the file sides on the flat Phillips screwdriver.

My keyring EDC is an older MTO Style CS.  I will probably give the Dime a try in that role.  I rarely, if ever, need a bottle opener but the one on the dime looks like it will work to attach to my carabiner.

Well so far this is what I have used and how it worked out for me.

The clam package opener worked great! Very happy with this function.  :)

I used the bottle opener and it worked as I expected, with no problems and it only took one try to lift off the bottle cap.  :)

The scissors have yet to be used but they are stiff to deploy and use and have such short blades I probably will not be giving up on my Victorinox Classic scissors.  :(

The tweezers are hard to remove due to the placement of the bottle opener, but they do work fine.  :-\

I have an all black model and after opening and closing them a couple of times some black has already started to chip and scrape off where they rub when you first open up the pliers.  :(

The blade worked fine for opening a large package envelope but I will probably give them a touch up for sharpness.  :)

I used the flat screwdriver to open up an electrical cabinet and found it a little short but useable.  :-\

Both screwdrivers are stiff to deploy so I might have to loosen up the torx screws. (Turns out most of my stiff to deploy issues are related to the black coating on everything.)

Overall I like this tool but I feel it will not replace my Vic Classic from my pocket.

I give it 3 smileys, 2 frowneys and 2 undecideds for an overall score of 70 of 100.

Got mine today from the group buy (Thanks Travis!). I got the black version. It feels solid but the implements are hard to get out. Going to lube it up and edc it for a while before I'll pass judgement.

I bought my Dime yesterday and really like it. I would love to put the file/flat driver
from the PS4 in the Dime, package opener, spot. That would be perfect!

I like the Dime overall, and while it is nowhere near the level of the PS4 in quality, it has a more useful set of implements, IMO.

The Dime is a superb little tool. Carried mine (or one of them  ::) ) again today  :)
I don't have a PS4, but I'd put the quality of all three of my Dimes as higher than both my P4s ... and a better too selection than the PS4 too.

I still like the P4 for the awl and mini driver, and if they'd kept those over the file I'd definitely have some PS4s ... but then I might not have gotten the excellent Dime  :-\

I never owned a PS4 or P4.  I do think the Dime is a great little tool, though.  It sees regular keychain time.  :tu:

I've never been able to get excited over the Squirts- they always struck me as a poor replacement for the Micra.

Totally agree, the P4 is much higher quality and durability IMO.  I'm mostly curious to know how the dime compares to that as I already tried a PS4 and didnt like it at all.  I also found the gerber clutch to be extremely poor on quality.

The clutch I have is not very good, drivers badly ground. I keep meaning to get a dime but don't want to ditch the crossgrip since I really like its pliers, and don't like the package opener on dime (or on any other tool).

 Def:  :D  :D For $20 I couldn't pass up a Wingman.

I bought the Gerber Dime and as usual I find the quality to be fair at best. The scissors are a joke and the wire cutters are really bad. I like the overall look of the tool and I love the shape of the knife blade, but I just can't recommend anyone spending their hard earned money one one. Makes me love my LM P4's even more than I already did.   :tu:
