I don't trust the pliers on the dime. They might be longer and open wider but for me strength and durability are more important. I think the rivet on the dime will become loose much faster as it will experience greater force.

I agree but I don't think it's the rivet you have to worry about.

Just thought I'd jump in here instead of making a new thread.

What would you choose between a Squirt, Clutch, the Compact Multi-Tool (Bear Grylls branded Clutch, slightly different tools) or the Dime?

Cheers

Ive used a Squirt S4, P4, PS4, gerber Clutch.  Of those I liked the Squirt P4 best.  I felt it was the best overall quality made tool and I still carry it on my keychain every day.

Dime, without any doubt or hesitation.

Micra for me, but since it's not on the list I'd take the Dime.

If I wanted sturdy small pliers it's impossible to beat the SOG CrossGrip, although the internal tools in the SOG are lacking.  Typical SOG- great concept but once the initial idea was achieved the rest was just phoned in.

Okay, so my Dime literally just arrived. I like the pliers. The knife needs touching up, but out the box it's decent. The tweezers am not a fan of at all. I took them out and they didn't work as intended until I bent them to match my SAK ones. Before I did that, they were just flat. Now, am presuming this just happened because it seems to be a tight squeeze for it to get in the holder/compartment thing. I also noticed, right out the box, the paint chips that appear from opening and closing the pliers were there out the box.  Otherwise, decent little multi-tool, seems well built.

Got me a Dime this week, to replace a Leatherman P4. On first impressions I'm very happy with it.

Pros:
  • Much stiffer slip lock than my P4, and I can tighten things up with the torx screws (my P4 is riveted)
  • Great tool loadout - tools are of a practical size, and suit my needs, all seem quite well made (no trial by fire yet)
  • Outside bottle opener blows away the P4's!
  • The 'sheep's foot' knife design suits my needs very well, since I often use the tip for scoring, which is more difficult on a blade with a higher point. Basically, it's closer to a utility blade than most, which I like.
  • Blade and package opener came very sharp
  • Looks great!

Cons - only problems with build quality so far, and they're mostly cosmetic
  • The package opener on mine does not quite sit flush in the body
  • As others have mentioned, the scales scrape. Being on my keys though, I expect the finish to degrade pretty fast anyhow
  • There is a bit of wobble between the two halves when it's closed. Tightening the torx screws cut down on this, but it's still there
  • The lanyard / key ring loop is on the same end as the bottle opener, making it harder to use if you've got a bunch of keys on it! That said, putting at the other end and obstructing the pliers would have been much worse

I also got a Clutch, since it was so damn cheap, and I have to say, the quality of the Dime is much, much better. The screwdriver tips on the Clutch came rounded, I doubt they're good for much at all. The pliers halves don't sit quite level, and are also rounded at the edges of the teeth.

I'm going to try taking the serrated blade off the Clutch and putting it in place of the scissors on the Dime. The scissors are good quality, very nice, but I don't have much use for them.

Well, it's worth only a nickle, anyway. :pok:  Did you ever get a blue one, Dan?  Want me to send one up to you sometime?
