Wenger Ranger-grip Patagonia Question

Is the Ranger 78 Patagonia model with the grip scales available with a plain edge blade?  I really like the look of the yellow scales and the tool selection; looks like it'd be a great camp knife and / or BOB knife, but I'd prefer a PE blade.  Any info would be appreciated.

I'm in the same situation, it seems that if you want a PE blade you are stuck with Red scales.  I personally like the OD green scales, but again it's only on the 178 with the serrated blade.  I don't get it, I feel like having a woodsaw, and a serrated blade is kind of redundant.  I know a dull serrated edge will   "cut"   better then a dull plain edge, but I'm very anal about keeping all my blades sharp.

Yeah, seems like we're on the same page.  I don't oversharpen my knives, but I never let them get dangerously dull either.

And I don't get the design of the blade on the Patagonia either... why is there a small section of plain edge between the serrated section and the handle?  Am I missing something?  That just doesn't make sense to me.

I had the same question about some other knife and found it to be because you have the most control with the knife at the base of the blade, so they put the plain edge back down there. I'm not positive because it looks very small.

There's no edge between the serrations and handle,but it is a great knife and cuts really well,you won't make a mistake getting one,I used to hate serrations to but am converted now

Thanks for the info.  I couldn't tell from any of the pics I've seen of it that that part of the blade isn't sharpened.

I would think that this is the portion of the blade that snaps against the back-spring when closed
