Red Dwarf

It was a great show, but the last few seasons were a bit boring.

Red Dwarf

It was a great show, but the last few seasons were a bit boring.

The last one (not the special) was good. The previous one or two were pretty bad, but they were back on track with the last series and then just stoped.

A new Star Trek perhaps based on the mysterious Section 31.

Yes yes yes yes yes!

Also, Jericho and Firefly.

A Sun article about Jillian Anderson reminded me of the fact that the X-files have been away for some time..

Bring them back!  :salute: (with Mulder...)

This thread really got me missing sci-fi shows.  I started re-watching SG1 last night, and I'm really re-enjoying it.  I haven't watched it since it aired originally, and its darn good.

There isn't enough currently produced sci-fi to feed my need.  I still watch the new Dr Who, but I never bonded with the current doctor, the 2nd one, forget his name, was awesome though.

David Tennant, a good Scottish actor (though you'd never know by his Doctor Who accent). :)

Ah yes!  My wife even like Dr Who, and she normally cant watch any Sci Fi.. so we still watch it, I just haven't gotten used to the new actor.

A relevant fact to this thread is that not only was David Tennant involved in the revived Doctor Who series, but also appeared in a new version of the Quatermass Experiment a few years ago.   :)

I've seen about half the new Doctor Who series, and most of the Torchwood series.

I used to love Red Dwarf many many moons ago, didn't they try and reboot/resume that recently (and fail?)

I'd love to see Stargate of any sort return... SG1 was entertaining, as was Atlantis for the most part (aside from the filler episodes now and then) and they killed off Universe way too quickly... I expected it to at least get an Atlantis length run before they axed it.

The V reboot was ok, but I can't see how they would be able to keep going, and even less so after how they wrapped it up...

I'm craving a space/spaceship Scifi series... it's really something missing lately... back in the day when we had Star Trek TNG/Voyager/DeepSpaceNine and Babylon5... and a couple other series too iirc all running at the same time...

Now we have Fringe, Eureka (not for long...), Warehouse 13, Falling Skies, Game Of Thrones, The Walking Dead... and the unending array of vampire based stuff...

Looking forward to more Game of Thrones... the rest has become kinda iffy...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I'll date myself, but when I was a kid I thought this guy held the secrets to the universe. I don't know what it was, but for me he was the coolest thing to ever emerge from a TARDIS. Wouldn't mind seeing him again with some really decent effect work like the remastered Star Trek episodes.

I need to hit IMDB and find out what he's doing lately...

I never got into Stargate when it was on.  Everyone told me how good it was, but it came out at a time when lots of crappy Sci fi came out and I had initially lumped it in with all of the other rejects that were culled from Roddenberry's trash can when he died.  Andromeda anyone?

Didn't think so.   ::)

By the time I realized it wasn't one of the ones ol' Gene was too embarrassed to talk about when he was alive the show was in full swing and difficult to pick up.  Eventually bot torrent came along and I'd always meant to download the series, but I never did.  Recently the SG1 series was made available on Netflix and I've been enjoying it- I'm near the end of Season 9 at the moment and to be honest I really don't care for the last season.  It's ok, and Beau Bridges is a great actor (I loved him in My Name is Earl) but I don't see him as the tough General type, and Cam just isn't Jack.

Atlantis isn't on Netflix in Canada and neither is Universe so I guess I'll have to download them now that I'm kind of hooked.  The Stargate Infinity cartoon is however, so I'll probably check that out as well.

I think what I like best about Stargate is all the shots they make at other Sci Fi shows, especially Star Trek.  They are always making jokes and occasionally you see Klingon Bat'leth swords in the background.  In one episode I recently watched SG1 was almost eaten alive by bugs, but were saved just in time for movie night.  Cam suggests they watch Starship Troopers and Teal'c asks if it's humerus and Cam says yes, which considering they were almost eaten by bugs, I suppose it would be!

Firefly I liked, but I thought they were leaning towards the Summer Glau side of things with the agents in the suits and dark gloves.  They seemed too much like a rip off of the Psi Corps from Babylon 5.  Let's face it, you aren't going to do any better than Bester in that context.

I also thought Firefly was part of the Roddenberry Post Mortem trash raiding and largely ignored it too at the time, and again watched it when it was made available on Netflix.  I couldn't watch them fast enough and I was hugely proven wrong.  You can understand my concern though, as there were some unspeakable horrors thrust upon unsuspecting sci fi fans.  Earth: Final Conflict anyone?

Didn't think so.

Unfortunately I think the movie Serenity, while good, kind of killed off the storyline for Firefly and I don't see it being resurrected all that well.

Buck Rogers.

If for no other reason than to have Wilma Deering back as well.

(Image removed from quote.)

I am totally surprised that there isn't a new Buck Rogers reboot out there yet.  Everything else has been brought back with varying levels of success.  Flash Gordon anyone?

Didn't think so....

I didn't like the new V and I wasn't sold on the reboot of Battlestar Galactica.  I couldn't get used to Starbuck being a blond chick, the big black guy being a small Asian chick and most of the cast secretly being Cylons.  Secrets so well kept that even the people don't know they are Cylons.  I hate it when I'm a big black guy who's really a little Asian chick that's really an alien robot...  ::)

I think if they'd gone the route of the Next Generation type thing where these were the descendants of the original cast I may have been a bit more open to it though.

I have been eying Farscape on Netflix lately, although it looks like it might be kind of dumb too- anyone care to give a thumbs up or down on that one?

I liked Farscape well enough, in fact it's got a bit of a 'Buck Rodgers' vibe to it.  Not big budget and has yet another 'big strong alien who it kick-ass in a fight' character  ::) but it also had some interesting ideas.

In my perfect world I'd revive the following: 1) Babylon 5, probably my favorite show of all time. Re-do it following the intended storyline before the studio started screwing it up later, and erase the trainwreck of the last season.
2) Firefly. Seriously Fox, WTF?
3) Space: Above and Beyond. Give it a real budget and it could be better than the Battlestar Galactica remake (which I loved)

Everything else coming to mind I think basically got to run their course just fine, or too long like in the case of The X Files.
