Scifi fans, what show would you bring back?
on: March 12, 2012, 06:37:59 PM
Interesting, seems Netflix is planning to bring some shows back to life on their platform, while I can't use netflix here in Spain (yet) I'd love to see this happen!

http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/scifi/10-cancelled-scifi-tv-shows-netflix-bring-terra-nova.html
Excerpt
Quote
Earlier this week we got wind that Netflix may be investigating the possibility of producing new episodes of the recently cancelled Fox series Terra Nova for broadcast on their streaming service. They’ve already committed to doing just that, for the once cancelled but much loved series Arrested Development. But in the case of Terra Nova, it feels like the wrong move.

The list of great science fiction programs unfairly cancelled before their time is long and, while Terra Nova has its charms, it should be near the bottom of the list when it comes to looking at cancelled sci-fi that Netflix should bring back. To help them figure out their next move we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to the science fiction shows which not only should be resurrected by Netflix before they can consider Terra Nova, but also shows which it’s realistic to consider. That means no matter how much we loved Quantum Leap we realize it’s been gone so long there’s no way to bring it back. But Netflix could and should look into making new episodes of these shows, instead…

By the way, I voted for Firefly.

Firefly was my first thought too!  Another favorite of mine was jericho.  I didn't know terra nova was cancelled!  I know it wasn't the best, but there isn't much good sci fi at all anymore to pick from and I would have kept watching.

I believe there is a space 1999 revamp in the works elsewhere...

Yeah, both the wife and I dug Jericho. Terra Nova was ok, and they did have lots of story to tell, even if it was land of the lost/Jurassic Park meets Stargate. I won't miss it terribly.

I would love to see a "Space: Above and Beyond" reboot as well...

I vote for firefly, they could drum up some interest by letting people watch it in the correct sequence for once so it has a chance to make sense.

The problem is that with the partial conclusion of the story in the serenity film and the killing off of one of the main characters, sequel eposides might struggle to find a compelling new direction and any intermediate episodes made could end up being filler as they try and keep things canon.

I always thought the charm of Blakes 7 was how budget it was, no remake can capture the pure essence of such wobbly scenery.

My fav old time low budget canadian sci fi classic was called starlost ( from the 70's ).  Horrible effects, but I think the concept of ecosystems on an 'ark' in space was just excellent.  I remember being glued to the tv when it was on.  I finally acquired it on DVD.

Firefly would be my first choice by a mile, but there's a few other I wish has been around longer.

SG Universe looked like it might have some longer term potential, V wasn't bad and I'd like another Star Trek please :D

I would like to have seen more of the Stargate Universe series. Seems like that one ended too soon!

I think most would agree that Firefly ended far to soon.  I like the idea of a Blake's 7 revamp, and the Space 2099 could be good.  "Space:Above and Beyond" could have done with a bigger budget and a couple of more series. :)

I've seen the re-runs. :tu:  It was a Gerry Anderson production (he of Thunderbirds fame) and was indeed pretty good. :)

Oh, I just thought of another one; "The Tripods".  A TV show that very nearly broke the BBC due to massive budget costs.  Based on some excellent books that I might just have to go and find. :tu:

I recently watched and LOVED the bbc series Survivors, the one from the 70s.  The remake was good too, but the original was 4 seasons worth I think.  Not really sci fi, but all this talk made me think of it.

I've seen the first two series of the original version and the modern remakes.  Both good series, but in very different ways.  Need to get my hands on series 3+4 of the original. :tu:

I agree on Firefly as well.

Although I would really like to see one more season of Surface.  I really want to know what happens...

Babylon 5- as much as I'd love to see it again, I think it kinda ran it's course.  Plus half the cast is dead, so they'd have to bring in all new actors.

Firefly- Hell yeah, count me in on that one.

Space: Above and Beyond- I'd love to see the Five Eight come back to fight the Chigs.

Stargate SG1- I liked seeing MacGuyver shoot first and ask questions later!

Desipite the fact that they killed the goose for a less than golden egg, Firefly. I'm thinking this is might unhealthy place to be a blue belly to be caught alone and drunk on Unification Day. :)

But I don't think it could be done. :( We've already seen the abridged third season, so doing the second season would kind of be a mood killer.

Maybe Doll House?

I'd like to see Quantum Leap, but with the main character having to fix worldwide history, not just in the States.

I'd like to have Gene Roddenberry reincarnated and bring back Star Trek for another 40 years.

Lost in Space, but more like the original series not like the movie that was horrible mishmash of special effects.

The Six Million Dollar Man (would have to be 6 billion now...)

Alien Nation

It would be nice to turn back time and prevent the last three Star Wars movies from being produced and making an abomination of a once great trilogy.

I loved Stargate SG1, for what it was.  I could own the entire series and watch it all the time.  My wife hated it.

I really would like to see it come back, but maybe with better acting and better effects.

Anyone else miss 3rd rock from the sun?

I also loved Star Trek TNG, babylon 5, etc.  I never watched Battlestar Galactica, but from what I hear I really missed out.

Blakes 7 for sure, I liked the premise and the characters were great.  Not much else from the British scene, though I was very disappointed they only made one series of Ultraviolet (not quite SciFi I suppose but if Doctor Who gets classed that way).

A new Star Trek perhaps based on the mysterious Section 31.

Space Above and Beyond would get my vote too :tu:

I enjoyed Serenity but Firefly the series never quite cut it for me  :-\
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
