New watch, not quite sure, would like some opinions
on: April 24, 2012, 02:07:22 AM
So I sold my timex tide/temp/compass and bought another watch, local store doesn't stock it so I couldn't try it on, and had to order from their online warehouse. Well, it didn't look quite the same as the online photos, and wears quite a bit bigger than the numbers suggest. What do you think, looks okay? Too big on my wrist (7")? Keep or return? It's a dive watch but I intend to EDC it.

I personally like big watches, so I don't think it looks too big.  If it feels comfortable wearing it, then I'd say keep it.

Looks ok to me, but then I have small wrists so maybe I'm just used to odd sized watch/wrist combos.

Thanks all. I've been wearing a thin titanium watch for the winter and this one is 3x the weight, so there was a bit of size/weight shock going on. Now that I've been wearing it for a bit it doesn't feel ridiculously large as it did. I think I'll keep it.  :D

I wear great big watches as long as they are comfortable. Looks good on you :)

Having small wrists myself, I understand the big-watch dilemma.  I personally never got on with ones that were "too big," whatever that means  ::)  Although, my wife always thought they looked ok.

I eventually settled on a Citizen BN0000-04H mid-sized diver.

Ultimately, if you like it, keep it.  I think big watches are here to stay as a fashionable item.

That's a honkin' big watch!

I personally never wear a wrist watch anymore, for anything except formal occasions.  Even then, I hate them; never felt comfortable wearing one.  I honestly use my phone for that now more often than anything else.

If I felt compelled to carry a real watch, for the size of that one, I'd just as soon get a pocket watch instead.

I've been wearing watches since I was in elementary school, so I'm used to one and would feel something is missing if I didn't. I have skinny wrist though so the watch wouldn't look as big if seen with entire person.

Just bought a cheap SS bracelet off ebay, will see if it works better than the bulky rubber strap it came with.

Have you tried a silicone diver's strap with a deployment buckle?

Agreed, that Ti is sweet. As to the larger one, I say if it's not one of those that keeps rolling over to the bottom of your wrist, it's okay.

Another thing about those St. Moritz watches, they're tough as nails.  I owned one years ago and it was practically indestructible.  And I do believe those are legitimately intended for real diving.  Be happy with your new watch, it's a super time piece.

Yep I have no doubt about that, it sure weights like one! According to the company, they are sold at more dive shops than your usual watch places. They aren't really well known compare to the more common watch brand, but I suppose it's a good thing since it keeps the price low and value high.
