Adult Beverage

Websniper mentioned over in the 'What's on your person RIGHT NOW' thread that he had an adult beverage at hand. As I didn't know that should have been included, I feel a need to say, I TOO have an adult beverage at hand. Moreover, I will share the recipe, to this, one of my favorite beverages.

In a pint glass...
1 shot (at least) of rum. I prefer dark, spiced.
Half the remaining space with Sprite soda.
Top the rest off with 'Simply Limeade'.

I have jokingly referred to this as 'girly grog' before, but it has no official name. The non-alcoholic version (just the Sprite and Limeaid), we have dubbed 'Sprime'. It's sounds a little less appetizing when you add rum for 'Sprum'. :D

What's your adult beverage?
     :drink:

Oh, I drink a good deal of beer on occasion, and have brewed a few  batches of ale (my preference in beer). While I have found a few wines that aren't bad, they're all sweet. I never developed a taste for dry wine. Tastes like not-quite-ready vinegar to me.

That's not that far off from my favorite spring/summer/fall tipple, a variation of the venerable Dark & Stormy. My version uses *good* spiced rum (Sailor Jerry, Cruzan 9, The Kraken, heck even Myer's Dark will do in a pinch, but NO Morgan under pain of death), ginger beer, and the juice of one lime. Rum and citrus go ooooh so well together, as does rum and ginger.

Excuse me, I'll be back in a bit, I'm suddenly feeling a mite parched...

(My other summer cooler when it's oppressively hot is the good ol' Gin & Tonic, preferably with Beefeater and the juice of half a lime. Quite a thirst quencher, lemme tell ya!)

Hey, I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, and like all the jolly good fellows, I too drink my whiskey clear!  :hatsoff:

But this jolly good fellow knows to adapt to one's environment. And when it's hot and humid, a bit more hydration is appropriate. Plenty of time to sip whiskey after the sun goes down.  :tu:

(I'm with you on the Jack. Didn't even like it in college, and now I'm older and wiser and know there's a whole world of *real* whiskeys out there to enjoy!)

I totally concur on the ginger ale or ginger beer with rum and lime. I do that one at a friend's house often.

I'm mostly a beer and wine type guy, but I do like the occasional foray into the harder stuff.  I'm more of a casual drinker, in that I generally only have one or two drinks at most, so I tend to like them to be quick and easy (like popping a cork or cap), or really worth the effort of making, like a good rum & Coke.

I also like margaritas, but I usually only get into those when we are at a restaurant (someone else making them :P) or if there are a bunch of people around that are into them and make it worthwhile to make a big batch.

I guess I'm not so much a casual drinker as a lazy one... :P

I love cider :)

I'm getting into cider. I'm a big beer fan. My favourite beer is the one I've not tried yet :)

I am, however, quite partial to Rekorderlig Apple and Blackcurrant cider. Tastes just like fizzy Ribena, but is 4% :D

As for stronger stuff, I'm a fan of the cellar-door only Brown Brothers Grand Tokay (it's a good thing I live near the cellar door!) and Glenrothes scotch. Glenrothes is the only scotch released as a vintage, and is only released when they deem it good enough. Early vintages are now very, very expensive. I've been lucky enough to own (and drink) 3 vintages.

Summertime festive adult beverage of choice?

Pisco sours!

Basically tastes like a Margarita but supercharged.

3 parts Pisco (1shot)
2 parts lime juice
1.5 parts simple syrup
1 egg white.

Shake vigorously with ice.
Pour off into a glass.
Top with a few shakes of bitters on top of the white foam head.

Oh, the thread where the members really see what kind of people the other members are. :D

In general, I'm not big on drinks, I prefer stuff that's tasty without adding stuff. ;)

I'm a sucker for really good rum, Zacapa might be my current favourite. Sweet nectar!

Otherwise it's usually Bavarian wheat beer, and I'm happy if I can find a really dry cider, like German Speyerling. As long it's properly made, I enjoy many kinds of beer, be it an Double Imperial Russian Stout or a Schwarzbier.

As for summertime, few things beat a good Weissweinschorle (white wine, I prefer medium dry, mixed with sparkling water).

Now there's one I haven't gotten around to yet. But I wonder if all that shaking is a bit strenuous for really hot weather!

As my forum name would imply, I like mead.  But if we are measuring our favorite by the amount that we drink, then beer would be my favorite.

I lost a weekend in the 80's to mead... ::)

Actually, truth be told I lost a lot of days to drinking so I mostly stopped about 10 years ago. I have those two or three days a year where I get utterly bolloxed but I'm mostly a dry drunk of sorts :)

My tipple of choice tends to be a good drop of red or a vodka and tonic or cranberry if I don't want to feel like death!

We've been doing icebergs and bulldogs the last few summers. Pretty much get your pint of beer then dump a scoop of margarita line slush into it. I usually use a cheap lager for this trick, anything better is just sacrilege. If its virgin lime slush we usually call that the iceberg and true margarita (tequila) slush constitutes the bulldog title.

Stay thirsty and as always...

I spent a couple months working in a cider factory when I was in my late teens, and have never been able to drink cider (hard or otherwise) since, and can only barely stand apple juice. That's a sad thing.

I'm also a fan of mead. I said earlier that I brew beer. The beer-brewing kit given to me was from a friend who makes mead. I suppose I could make mead myself, but that takes patience, and i can barely stand the time it takes to make ale. :D

My latest batch of alt beer is a little too hoppy for my taste, so I'm trying to get my friends and neighbors to drink it so my keg will be empty for a batch of blonde.

The next batch of mead is going to be a cyser.

I've only done 4 batches so far, all amber ales, all VERY low hops. I am NOT a hophead. The last batch I did was with fresh blackberries, and it was awesome beyond what my skill should have allowed. One of those great 'happy accidents'. I've got no cool place for fermenting until fall rolls back around, so... store-bought for me for a while.

If you need help QCing that mead, just let me know. :D

I'm not usually a big drinker, though I do occasionally get a wee bit carried away as those on this years meet may attest to  ::) (that last bottle of wine must have been a bit off  :P )

That said, I do like a drink, and at the moment my drinks cupboard has:
Three bottles of single malt (Ardmore, Glenfiddich Rich Oak, and Ledaig)
Red, rose and white wines (assorted)
Polished off the last bottle of berry cider last night ... need to remedy that ASAP
Bottled lager
Couple of cans of Bombadier
Thorntons Chocolate Liqueur
Vodka
Morgans Spiced Rum
Cheap Bacardi-esque white rum
Vanilla Jazz Schnapps
Chocolate Spice Schnapps
Peach Schnapps
Gin
Plus, midori, blue curacao, Creme de Cassis, and non-alcoholic mixers

In hand right now I've got a G&T, but I did have a lager and a rum & coke earlier. For me it depends on the mood and occasion, much like choosing a multitool or SAK. My favourite is probably a good single malt, but I have to make that an occasional treat or I can get a bit lot carried away

As funds recover from the house move, there will be more additions to the drinks arsenal. One tipple I REALLY like (though still doesn't beat a single malt) is Baileys, Amaretto, Southern Comfort and Cointreau. Two shots of Baileys to one shot of everything else .... YUMMY!!!
