25TH ANNIVERSARY
on: February 16, 2008, 07:03:53 PM
Dont you think it would have been a good idea for Leatherman to re release the original PST for their 25TH Anniversary with an inscription engraved on it ? Or do you think they have thrown away all the tooling to make them ?

Nope- the PST's we got at the show seem to have been newly minted.  They used the PST's to commemorate previous anniversaries though so they probably wanted to try something else.

I suspect there is probably a few thousand unused PSTs still sitting in old stock around the world's many stores.

Doing a 25th Anniversary PST would be a signal to "look back on what we've done."
Doing a 25th Charge is a subtle signal to "look at what we will do."

It's marketing, and probablly a very good idea. Everybody knows what Leatherman has done, but many people still carry their old tools.

PST isnt really rare. It is just that the price of them never really seem to go down. You still see them reg. go for over $30. Well for 25$ I can go to wallmart and get another kick to have trampin around the places I stash them.

$30?  :o

I paid five times that! (In AU dollars, which are worth significantly more than 20 US cents.)

I understand the Poms have the same problem.

I'm sure there's a legitimate reason - though it seems it could be USA specific, because German stuff I get is reasonably priced.

Well look into the Marmount tools. They still interest me.

But up here they are more than the pst.

Only found the one place here in the states. I guess I will have to try it out. Seems I might be the first here to post picks and review.

What's the place called?

If you do get one, checked the box for any "Imported By X for Y" notes.

Model # 1904 (The one with the built in Corkscrew) - the one that looks somewhat like a knock off Bear Jaws?

It looks right similar to something I have with a different brand on it. - Price is same ($28 at US website) - but there are probably a couple of factories pumping out nigh identical tools, so it is always hard to tell with this kind of thing.

the 1885 - which has Rostfrei stamped into the plier, and a humble locking mechanism could be a bit nicer option.

It's interesting - the "Quality Items Online" website has more options than the actual Zwiebruder website.

I am suspicious of anything with a scaling knife.
Looking at the different tools, I get the feeling they are being sourced from several suppliers, so there's no telling the quality on any given model,

Yep we sure do.  :(  Stuff from the USA is frequently half the price of over here and that includes shipping.

One part of it is that there is not actually a Leatherman Oz, there is another company that buys off leatherman, so they take a cut, they have to ship it - so those guys take a cut, then the Resellers buy it, and then it gets sold.

Leatherman US sells to Resellers, then to public - that's two less Middle Men (both groups have to deal with local Freighting between warehouse and store, so I didn't count that)

This of course occurs with many Imported products, depending on how good the relationship is between the Importer and the Manufacturer.

Sounds like a ripe environment for you to open your own multi-tool factory.

Course, I'm not sure how you can make a multi-tool sarcastic. Might have to kick that down to engineering.

Packaging was standard black & yellow Leatherman box, with a PST decal on the end. If I look real closely, I can make out the words "Removable Bit Driver" underneath the PST decal. So it must be something they threw together for the Shot Show. It also came with a leather Charge-style sheath.

Yes, but like I said, this appears to be a package they put together just for the Shot Show.

That's the current-issue sheath they sell with the Charge tools. It fits the PST with room to spare. The elastic side panels hold it securely though.
