Google nexus tablet is now on preorder

Just noticed it's available for preorder on google play and ships in 2-3 weeks. On Canadian site it's $209 for 8 GB and $259 for 16 GB, how much is it on US site?

Spec looks pretty good, 7" 1280x800, 1 GB RAM, Tegra 3 quad core, android 4.1, NFC capable etc.

knowing our luck it will be 300+ euros

I may have to look into that. I was thinking that a $200 Kindle Fire might be a good idea but this might be a better option.

I am looking for a tablet, my option was the Kindle fire, but I have to consider the Google Nexus 7, I need to search for comparation and try to see which is better option.

If this the the first tablet offered directly by Google, why isn't it a Motorola tablet since Google owns Motorola? Why is it made by ASUS?

That seems a little odd to me...

Didn't Google acquire Motorola not long ago? I think the tablet was in development before that.

Very nice specs for the price point on that tablet. Hopefully Nvidia isn't so stingy with releasing source code for the Tegra 3 as they were with the Tegra 2 because it really hamstrung any third-party development.

I read that kindle fire will release a 2nd generation of fire on July, someone know if this is true? or I should only consider between Nesus 7 and actual Fire.

So anyone going to get one? I'm very tempted to do it so I don't have to lug around my laptop, but lack of micro SD really put a crimp on things.

Lack of Micro SD isn't the reason I'm not buying one. Lack of 3G is why I'm not buying one.

I can live with the slowness of my Galaxy Tab 7, at least it has data access.

that seems to be a big oversight... no expandable memory, and no 3g connection, why did they bother putting a GPS in it...

UK price of £159 makes it very tempting.

The lack of a card slot is disappointing, but not too concerned at lack of 3G. Can always use my phone as a hotspot.

Yeah I have 3G on my phone so I'm not too concerned, besides I'm not paying for another data plan, we get raped by our telco enough as it is.

The whole idea behind the Nexus 7 is to utilise the cloud service by Google, Google Drive and really drive people to the Google Play store. Considering that they are really targeting Amazon and the cloud service they provide this is a real strategic move and the price is very smart from a US POV.

Well, until the day mobile internet access is as widespread as today's DSL/cable, cloud service isn't going to fly.
