Trading the Pioneer in for a SpyderCo...
on: June 30, 2012, 05:48:52 AM
It seems that my EDC needs have changed.  As I find myself needing a heavier duty blade than a SAK offers, I am replacing my Pioneer with a SpyderCo FRN Native (plain edge).  I found the Buck 110 to be a bit too heavy in weight and I desire a better steel than 420HC, so the SpyderCo also being OHO seems to fit the bill.  It's also of size and weight to pocket carry.  I try not to carry anything more than my Mag XL200 on my belt due to I like for my pants to stay up.

That said, I'll follow this up once I receive it and let you all know what I think of it  :D

The Native's been around forever, great knife.  I had the Native 3 for a while until it sadly developed some serious lock play issues and was warrantied.

I carried my Native today and its pretty impressive.  Since I did not want another belt sheath, the size makes it perfect for pocket carry.  The S30V comes very sharp and cuts smooth so far.  I plan to keep it touched up with my Smiths stone.  Not so sure about using the pocket clip, as in my experience, that's an easy way to lose a knife.  I'll probably keep it loose in my pocket with my keys.

I have a Native 5 in G10 and the Native Lightweight FRN. Both great knives. I think you will enjoy it as an EDC.
