Total Recall- The Book of Ahnuld
on: October 30, 2012, 12:36:55 AM
Is anyone else reading the latest Arnold Schwarzenegger biography?  I am up to the point where he's about to start shooting Conan and he's starting to get serious with Maria Shriver.... or Skeletor if you are a South Park fan!  :P

It's a pretty good book so far.  There's not much I didn't know about him, but to read the details of how the things I knew came about is fascinating.  I'm really enjoying the book so far.

I've heard several Arnie commentary tracks. I'd rather be shot in the face than read any book he was involved in writing. That's just me, though.

My suspicions on what it would be like is... well.... THIS:

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I find some of his movies to be great fun.

I haven't read it all yet so I can't trash it as expertly as that guy, but to be honest I don't see it nearly as bad as he is suggesting.  I think it's more likely that the bad parts are glossed over simply because that seems to be the way he does things, not because he wants to hide the fact that he has made mistakes.  And, as for him being a bit self absorbed in his memoir, well, it is supposed to be about him, isn't it?  It would be a crappy biography if it was supposed to be about him and yet it was all about Eva Gabor.

Anyways, I'm finding it interesting.... as always, your mileage may vary!  :D

I have been following Arnies career a bit, being interested in weightlifting for several years and such, for many years. Most of his films, if not all, are quite watchable, even the first ones (Hercules ..).
He is by no means a great Actor, especially when speaking (no real emotion in his voice; more emotions conveyed by his "look" and mannerisms) but he never seems to take himself too seriously in his films, which is good and makes for a likeable character and entertainment.
As for being self-obsessed, considering his bodybuilding background, being considered a “looker” for decades and what he has achieved it is understandable. Apart from his “indiscretions  :P ” he seems alright for what he is; a big celebrity/politician.
