How many of you are SAK Collectors, Mods or, simply, Users?

The question is straightforward: How many of you are
1) SAK Collectors
2) SAK Modificators or
3) Just Users and enthusiasts, owners of under, say, 10 samples, most of them used more or less?

I am No3, but I might go to No1 or, preferably, No2 when I grow up!

I have a pretty small collection and I dont think it will grow too big, maybe 25 SAKs.  I probably buy 20-30 SAKs a month for mods, so that's the bulk of my SAK buying.  I carry a SAK daily and use it daily too though.. so I guess I am all three, but mostly I modify them.  Great knives! Everyone should have 1 or 2 or 20.

Started out as (3) and stayed there for many years, then they started multiplying, I went into a state of denial, and finally realized I might as well admit I'm in category (1) now. I feel naked without carrying a knife, it's actually annoying when travelling by plane. (Thank dog for 58 mm knives being accepted again around these parts, even though I prefer something a little more substantial.)

I guess I can be called an enthusiastic accumulator.

I have several SAK's, and have owned many more during my life. Some go as gifts, sone traded, a few lost or stolen. I've given away a SAK here and there to someone who admired it and needed a knife. But if I get my hands on a new SAK, it goes in my pocket and gets used. I don't believe in having anything I don't use on a real regular basis. All my SAK's are users.

I'd have to say I'm a 3. Pretty much all the saks I have have been bought in search for the ultimate EDC and not as collector's items. I don't even have many of them, just 6 or so.

I do tend to carry one at all times though. (A Climber at the moment)

i'd like to think i'm just a user but do seem to have more SAK's than pockets 
if/when i get myself some space to call a 'workshop' i'd love to have a go at a little modding too , i have some ideas

I own about 25 SAKs and 3 multi-tools.
I buy way more but give them as presents to family and friends.

For me it's complicated. I'm a user but also I love modding.
I'd love to have one SAK, edc it and love it. But since I had to try modding all different sizes, I ended up with the following:

Alox Rambler
EvoGrip S18

Count me in category 3.  I'm mostly looking for the perfect EDC, but I hate having extras lying around that don't see regular use.  So I give them dedicated homes depending on what they are, and try to match the homes I give them to their tool compliment. 

For example, my Ranger 179 and my old Swiss Champ live on/in my adventure pack, my modded 111 Hunter lives on the waist strap of my day hiking hydro-pack, my Compact lives in one of the side pockets of my Skinth SP, my Exec lives in my pocket with a Photon Micro, and so on.  But, I'm a lightweight compared to most of you guys... I only have a grand total of 11 SAKs.   

I am learning to mod though; I tore apart a Compact and an old Explorer to make a Yeoman.  Still have to find time to put it together.

All of the above here also. Although I haven't bought one in like 3 months, I do have quite a few. And I love reading up on them, getting to know the history, the new and discontinued models, variations, ...
I've done a couple of mods, both scale and tool-wise, I like adapting my tools to fit my needs. And I always have one or two SAKs on me when I leave the house.

I'm primarily a collector (both Victorinox and Wenger, and also a small mix of other knives). Also have a couple dozen users, mainly SAKS, floating around the place.

For sure number 1, I only collect, I live in one of the largest cities in South America, there is no much room for daily wilderness experiences. But is great a way to spend time, relief stress and waste some money!

I'm a user & an accumulator. I have 20 right now and use most of them. Some are dupes I.e. 3 Tinkers, 2 Hikers and 2 Campers.

Some of them were bought just to see what the tools were like and whether they work for me, others are spares or tools for mod parts. I do have SAK's that are surplus to my needs as a result, but I'm in the process of clearing them out

10-12 was arbitrary. People should self determine at will. I just thought that one would need to use 3-4 SAKs (such as a small 58-78mm, a regular 84-91mm and a big one 111-130mm). But some people could use 3-4 times that number.
In fact, a potential collector could start with 1-2 knives and a user could rotate a different knife everyday.

I don't think it's fair to dictate a number either. A lot of mine are not pocket carried, but positioned somewhere they'll be needed ready in case I don't have one in my pocket at the time. They're users, but not carried if that makes sense. These will total up to way more than 10.

Let's see ...

3 on Keyrings etc (Classics & a Manager)
5 in various kits including FAKs
6 Pocket carry options
2 spares (duplicates) for hard to replace pocket carry - bought when I had the chance
2 Reserved for posh/formal occasions
1 in the coffee table
1 in the kitchen
1 in the car
1 in my EDC bag

That's 20 users plus 2 in reserve! There's also one I want to carry, but I want to make a pocket sheath for it (eventually) so it doesn't get wrecked (timekeeper- don't want to break the clock) ... so make that 3 in reserve. However, not counting the ones on keys, less than half of those ever ride round in a pocket.

Plus there's:
ONE I own which I bought with the intention of not using that sits in a box, three being held to be given as gifts later, and a box with several in for future modding (to make 1 each of 84, 85, 91 & 93mm) which will replace other knives currently in play. There are more in that box too which I got to play with and try out - that's how I decided which the best users are for me - but the extras that don't suit me personally are being sold off. I'm just trying to finalise exactly which ones to keep for modding so I can let the rest go

... and still I don't consider myself a collector.

I own a lot, and use a lot, an would consider myself an enthusiast. I'm also now cutting back to what works for me and getting rid of the rest - I don't consider that a "collector" would do that. It all comes down to what your definition is I suppose.

I have more than 10 different options of footwear for various days - hiking boots, rigger boots, steel toed shoes, formal shoes, slippers etc etc - but I don't consider myself a shoe collector either

I guess a collector tries to avoid hard use of the knifes because it might lower their values. I bought some SAKs from a collector, they were practically new.
